I bet you could get top-dollar for your LX considering the low miles and the fact that it's a '97. Matter of fact... I just looked up NADA values for that thing...

$11.5k for clean retail value!! I would totally agree with selling yours (try listing it on IH8Mud.com, if you haven't already). Anyone that knows how low those miles are and wants a clean rig should be all over it. If you own it outright and can get around clean retail out of it ($11k +/-), then you should be close to affording a mostly-built FZJ. I would say depending on the build, a well put together FZJ should run around $12-15k.

IMO you may not find something like the right, built FZJ in Utah... you may have to travel. Be prepared, do your research and don't commit to anything until you see it in person. I've been disappointed in the past, but also had successful purchases sight unseen.

You never know what people might be willing to pay. In January I sold a low mileage stock 40th anniversary cruiser on eBay.....$22k. On the other hand I just noticed a LX with lockers on Ksl for like $6k, 165k miles.

I picked this particular cruiser up in Virginia because it was very well documented, rust free, unmolested, low miles. I'm definitely not opposed to going far to get the right vehicle, I just need to learn some Yankee prudence and wait for the right deal.

And RE: ih8mud - those guys know how to find the good deals, and don't pride themselves on paying retail. I'll list it, but they typically way undervalue stock unlocked rigs...
Other than that, it's my go-to for great information for all things cruiser.

List it on expedition portal as well, a lot of folks look there before ih8mud and are willing to pay. You may also find your next built 80 on there because there are usually a few for sale. Or you may find a clean 98-99 Montero and go that route instead.
