well i got bored today and i was going to put my gas tank back in and then i just thought #$@% it lets cut the back off. it kinda came out of nowhere because i am sick of TALKING about how i am going to cut the rearend off my xj so i just DID it!
i think it is bad! the wheelbase looks so much shorter and it just looks cool! i am not sure what i am going to build the frame out of because i am not sure what i am going to do for suspension. those are brand new skyjacker rr 8" leafs and i don't want to throw them out i haven't even used them. i would probably get screwed if i tried to sell them and they are new... they cost like 400 and some dollars. anybody want them?

the pics are here i can't post them on here for some reason

NICE. That picture looks kindof funny with the shackles just floating there. Had to do a double take. so what are you going to do for a frame? Good luck.

you might as well keep cutting. Take out everything but the floor and the firewall and tube it out. That way you don't have to mees with the engine or electrical and seat/clutch/shifters/column.

might as well sell it and buy a yj... why would i do that, unibodies are hip

nah i am just going to cap the uniframe underneath the cab and build new frame rails for the back. maybe i will just leave the invisible rear on there ;)

actually, after i cut the uniframe with the pcutter and noticed that it was really sheetmetal like the rest, i am tempted to cut the uniframe underneath the cab and build that too. wouldn't be that hard, just a little headache.

You will need to graft a frame on there as far forward as the motor mounts to acheive any rigidity. I would keep cutting and tube it into something small and light. Why not? there isn't much point in keeping what you have left, especially the roof.

WOW  That thing should flex nice in the rear :D :D
Webshots does not allow you to post pics directly from the free version. You always need to post the links. Imagestation allows pics to be directly posted and I believe Phototime. Free like Webshots :D

that is what i thought too, but add a cage into that and it makes it a false statement. i will have to build more of a cage than average and focus a lot of it on the rear, but that doesn't bother me.

well the cage will go as far forward as the motor mounts and it will triangulate the rear in more than one way. the rear will also be tied into some huge box tube rocker that will go up there.

Nevermind.

i get the jist of what you mean, but i don't agree with it in this case. i could just chop off the uniframe except for the engine compartment portion and tube the rest. i won't rule that out as a possibility.

See, but... you don't HAVE a uniframe anymore. You now have sheet metal. I just think you could make it lighter and look better and probably easier if you cut the rest off.

This is your project and I'm sure it will turn out fine. The best part is, you have alot of fabbing and learning coming your way. :)

not too mention the fact that you are ten years ahead of where most of us were with tools at your age.
