Looks nice Greg. Bet you two will be enjoying that for a long while :)

I think so, I told Catherine we need to keep this one for at least 10 yrs. :)

I can say that my 4.0 v6 Tacoma tows great. 55-60 up parleys with 5600 in tow and 33s. I imagine the v8 would be even better (even though the power difference is not huge).

That V6 is impressive for sure, I think the V8 has the torque for towing heavy loads. Even then, 5600#'s with a V6 Tacoma is impressive! What were you towing? Was the mileage pretty bad with that much weight?

Nice!

...May I ask what that set you back? Maybe we'll start looking that way and dump the JK idea since I'll be keeping the 'not so much left Rubicon'... ;)

Enough... ;) I actually have been looking all over for the right one, we wanted a white or silver V8 Limited with heated seats and low miles. Having the BFG tires was a bonus. Book value for this one is $18.5k and we paid a couple grand under book.

I was towing an enclosed "contractor style" trailer with conduit, bender, generator, etc. loaded in. That weight was scale verified as well. With my driving style and the lift I get about 16-17 MPG empty and about 12 towing (pretty much any load is the same). That is as read on the odometer w/o compensating for the larger tire size. Driving style has a big impact as my wife can get 18-20 when she drives it (empty). FWIW I also have the 6 speed.

I'm shooting for 100K miles... minimum. :cody:

Hey Joe, how 'bout we line up both our new 4x4's for a run down the 1/4 Mile. If I win, you STFU. :greg: If you win... ah, don't think I'd have to worry about that. :p

We've been driving this 4Runner for a few days and it's impressive! The 4.7l V8 & 5 speed automatic are a great pair, the motor turns 2100 RPM at 75 MPH!

The fun begins with new rigs. Our new '06 Xterra does 2400rpm @ 85mph.. I love it. Slightly better on gas mileage than the '99 4runner, not to mention another 120 mile range over the 4runner. I love the 4.0 in this thing.. It's pretty ballsy.

I'm jealous of your new rig.. I'm sure you guys'll love it for a long long time. We plan to keep the Stalker (Xterra) for many many years..

What's the interior cargo space like in your 4runner? Lots of tucked away storage locations? Seems like newer SUV's got innovative with tons of hidden away storage areas.. Love it..

You bet! Imogene & Black Bear in the same day? Sounds like a plan to me!
I did Imogene in a rental car last summer. It was a nice day for sure. I don't know anything about Black Bear though other than it's in the same area.

(something about Black Bear into Telluride, over Imogene to Ouray, then back to GJT???)

Do you really want to take the Runner over Black Bear? You are a crazy red head. I want to do Imogene over the 4th this year, it's always been my favorite pass up there. It's really fun to go over Imogene, eat dinner in Telluride then rage over Ophir Pass during sunset. Wicked fun!

The 4Runner is nice, it does have a few additional storage areas but nothing surprising. It has some nice organizational-features in the cargo area... stuff for dividing the groceries. :D There's a lot of talk about the 4th Gen 4Runners being so much bigger than the previous 4Runners. It's wider, but that's about it. The roof isn't any taller, its close to my head at times. It's pretty low in stock form, I wouldn't dare take it on a semi-difficult trail currently. I ordered an OME lift from Kurt yesterday... that will help a ton.

We'll have to get out on the trail this year Jason! Have any plans for that Xterra? Any trips in mind?

I'd say start in Telluride, take Imogene over and Black Bear back. It would be a long day from Grand Junction & back.

Why not?! It will be lifted soon, running boards are coming off at that point. I'd feel safer doing Black Bear in the 4Runner vs the FJ80.

Question on Black Bear. Does it require a locker? 2? What's the minimum tire height? Always wanted to do those trails up by Silverton.

Well, keep in mind that I'm a giant pansy and I absolutely hate switchbacks and considering that your run of the mill Jeep can't make the switchbacks on Black Bear, it just seems uber scary in a Runner. BUT, I've also never driven down it, I've just looked at it numerous times and had heart palpitations. :)

No lockers, anything stock would do just fine. It's just super tight, so I would suggest something small-ish. But as earlier mentioned, I'm a giant pansy! We've taken all of our trucks over everything in that area except for Black Bear and all the way up Poughkeepsie Gulch. And lived to tell the tale. ;)

Wish I could call up Kurt and order an OME lift.. No such luck, as it doesn't exsist in my case.

This year the budget is tight. I've been offered a great deal on a used spacer and shackle lift that'll get me through '09. Other than that sliders, tires, and skid plates will most likely be the only major mods performed this year.

We'll need to do a grocery getter Swell run or something this year :)

A Toyota family is a happy family:D

My Dad has a cherry '04 V8 Sport that I'm looking forward to picking up. I love the center storage on the 4th gens, the 3rd gen storage is sparse in comparison. --He consistently pulls 21mpg out of it per the factory computer.--

I like the Sport model for the fabric/dash and gauge treatment and of course the hood scoop however the SR5's seem less complicated to lift with their conventional suspension vs. the cross linked X-REAS system of the Sport's.

Did this play into your decision or did you just get lucky:p

I look forward to seeing it lifted, I've already seen several nicely set up 4th's here in North SLC as the price is starting to drop.
