So I came across the axles for the upcoming project YJ.... they are hanging out under an '81 Chev single wheeled one ton with a rat and an Turbo 400... Dude wants $1500 for it... he's convinced the 8.25:1 120k mile smog infestered rat is worth a fortune... the whole time I'm drooling on the D60/14bolt.... is it worth it? hell ya it is, but I'm convinced I can get him down to at least $1k If I was made of money I'd have just said sold. :-\

I keep hearing that I'll gain patience with age.... I'M NOT SEEING ANY SIGNS OF IT!!!!!!1

honestly, for $1500 it may not be the best deal. If you plan to use the whole drivetrain then it may be worth it but you can't sell the motor for too much, if the tranny is in good shape and will run as is then you may be able to get a couple hundred, and the t-case is prolly a 203 (I think) which isn't worth much of anything at all, if it is a 203 the only thing it has going for it is it will be 32 spline input which is ideal for a doubler setup. Otherwise you can buy a set of matching 1 tons (60/60 or 60/14) for $1200 pretty easily and you will not ahve any work to do pulling them nor wil you have to worry about selling the unused stuff or worry about getting rid of the carcas when you are through with it.

I was *considering* using the trans and tcase (I was thinking it was a 205) and getting a tbi 4.3 or 350

FYI the YJ will end up with fox air on all four corners.

did the 205 ever come behind the t400? If so and thats what it is then thats a good case (still 32 spine input). I think it could also be a 208, I dont know chevy's well enough to say for sure. If you use the t400 then skip the 4.3L, it will rob so much of your power, some gusy dont even like to use the t400 behind stock 350s cause of the power loss.

By the way, D60 rebuild parts are very expensive. Have fun!

I would say ditch the project and buy a real truck.

You know, funny you say that cuz since I started this thread I've almost completely talked myself out of project YJ..... and into project buggy

The GMC and Chev auto one tons from 80-91 used the th400 and a 205. I have that setup in my 85. I also have the same setup that came from an 86 as spares for my 85. As far as I know the 208 and 203 were not used in these years for the one tons. If you can find a 1980 Chev, all automatic 4x4s had the 205 with th400 in the one tons and th350s in everything else that was an auto. In 81 to 91 only the one tons had the 205, others usually had the 208.

It's a Ford reverse cut :(

whats wrong with that? being that you are planning a doubler you can go from the chevy tranny to a ford t-case, this is how mine is setup. I used a chevy 203 and a Ford 205, this also almost guarantees 32 spline outputs and the input is 31 spine with the ford. The RC60 is much more desireable than the chevy front is.

No it's not. It's junk. I'll give ya $500 for it, though. That's the best you're gonna get out of that POS.

A) it's gunna cost better....

But.... did you have to fab your shifters? I've found a tripple shifter for the chev setup, but not for the ford... So I'd need a t400 (want not need) with a 203, then I'd have to drill new mounts in the ford 205? Will a devorced work?

It would be nice to be high.

Sorry I have no time to read up on it tonight.
