IMO They look bald when there brand new. they look like a oversized wheel barrel tire that's been carved up. They always look over inflated. Nothing against people that run them I just don't like them

As far as the option "others" goes I have seen mention of Mickey Thompson Baja Claws once and Pitbulls four times. I will give these tires a serious look as the time grows closer to when I will purchase. I voted for the MT/R's for a few reasons. First is that they use a radial construction. This has some importance to me because I do drive my rig on the street to get to and from the trail however, this does not mean that they are the correct tire for me just a thought. Second, my conversation with Matt from Crawl Magazine, got me to thinking about them. Third, Goodyear is still based here in the US. I think that it is important to try and help our own ecconomy here instead of else where. I have used my IROK's with some good sucess, and I don't hate them by any means I was just thinking about running a smaller size. My current 42" IROK's are already gone. So I am looking for new ideas. After wheeling this last Easter I got to thinking a little more outside the box, as it were. Lower rig, smaller tires, snappy throttle, better visibility, larger wheel diameter, shorter side wall on the tires, basicly just a more stable rig.

Thanks for all your opinions as they do mean a lot to me. Keep the ideas comming.

i can agree on a few of those..They always look over inflated....guess just one lol but i must say....that must be one bad a$$ wheel barrel!

but some i seen look ballonish..like rob's...but others i have seen are just sweet. there flat on top (instead of round) lots of tread showing. on the cover of crawl mag may/june 2007 is a perfect example of what i mean.

i would run them if they didnt go bald so dang fast...and look like balloon's on my rims

i was not impressed by the claws at all...i had high hopes for them...but every time i see them on the trail....they just suck....che's is no joke falling apart, one tire is bran new and i was pulling off rubber... from one trip! they hardly hooked up and im sure the only reason they did at all is cus there cut to hell. no offense to anyone that runs them...i just think you will be better off with a lump of excrement. lol

I agree with the IROK's suck comments. I watched 3 rigs TRY and climb double whammy with IROK's and have an extremely hard time, 1 of them finally made it up. At the same time, I saw 3 rigs with BFG KM's walk right up without chirping a tire.

Personally, I have had great experience with the Swamper SX's. And something else I just found, and is pretty damn cool, Swamper has released a 40x15x17 LTB with a 6 ply sidewall, thats 2 more than SX's. Pretty good price to. $1200 for a set of 4. Just my .02

I was constantly impressed with my 40" DOT compound Creepy Crawlers on the TJ. I picked them up used and at affordable price ($1400 with a few trips out on them), if you look hard you can find similar deals. I did have to drive from Fruita to Farmington, NM to get them, but it was worth it.

For the money I paid, I wanted them to last a long time, so I wanted the DOT compound. Even with a good deal of street driving with a spooled rear axle, they were wearing just fine. I wouldn't hesitate to pick up another set of Creepy Crawlers.

I don't know what your "beater" is but I would guess it's strictly offroad. I'd go with the Creepy's for sure. You won't find a better tire for crawling. IMO, the MT/Rs suck, especially for a strictly crawling tire. I didn't mind my Irocks but I only used them for about three months before I sold my buggy. The only other tire I would consider is the BFG Krawlers, but I still think the Creepy's are 10X's the tire.

It seems that rockers do well on heavier rigs, and not so well on light stuff.

I got to watch the new MTRs on 6 different (pretty wide spread) vehicles over EJS.... Although i'd say they are a vast improvement over the old MTRs, I was not impressed.

That said, I'd take the old MTRs over IRoKs any day of the week.

As of now it looks like most prefer the Maxxis tires over everything else. What did CannonCrawler mean by you have to be patient? Does anybody know what was ment by that?

Thanks for all your imput. I cannot express enough how much this is helping me to decide. Please keep your comments coming.

He meant, probably, that they are somewhat difficult to get your hands on. :D

I'm going to run either some Rockers, or the SX's... unless, like Greg, I run into a deal on Creepy's... need money first LOL

yeah, you may have to wait to find a good used set of Creepies. Unless you cough up some serious money for new ones.

Keep an eye on all the forum for sale sections. Pirate is a good one for Creepies. you will find a set if you just put the word out and keep looking. These are times when many are selling stuff to pay bills.

I remembered that you had stated that you had yet to air down. The day before on Hells Revenge I had three of my IROK's go flat. I started the day with them at 5 lbs but, after they went flat, Carl the fella in the red Scout, aired me back up to almost street pressure, around 15 lbs I think. After they went flat on me I never did air back down. To scared that they might go flat again. I hate, I mean really HATE, when the group needs to wait up for me because I am having a problem or I am broken.

That was the strangest tire thing I'd ever seen. 3 tires flat in a matter of feet. You are too hard on yourself for the waiting part. It took less than 5 minutes.

I may be a little hard on myself but, I spend an immense amount of time on rig preparation to ensure that I have no mechanical failures to hold anyone up. I was a little frustrated about the tire deflation issue. This is what I spend most of my time before a trip doing.

39.5" and smaller IRoKs like to burp air at <10psi, especially if you have beadlocks (unless they are double), because then the inner bead will fold over it's self when you put a twist on the tire
