Tire choices.

Which tires should I run?

I think you should go with a h1 rim and recenter it with a 5 on 5 1/2 bolt pattern then the tire actually weighs 5 lbs less

Except for the fact that the H1 wheels weigh more than what I have got already. What happens is as the wheel diameter increases the tire becomes less in weight. However, as the wheel diameter increases the wheel weight becomes more. More than the weight savings off of the larger tires. The H1 wheel specs. "12 bolt 2-piece steel wheels, with no beadlock/ runflat with GSA's weighs 110 lbs. The majority of 2-piece wheels came from the factory with one-piece solid rubber run-flats that also lock both tire beads. They weigh 35 lbs each (total wheel/tire weighs 142)" With a 42" Rocker weighing 98 lbs and a wheel weighing 110 lbs that would be a 208 pound wheel and tire set up (a piece). I run the Allied 32 bolt bead lock which weighs 38 lbs each add to that the tire weight of 102 and they both weigh 140 lbs. This is one of the reasons why I was wanting to run the 15" wheels.

Yeah yeah, but it's unsprung weight ;)

Good point. But, if you are increasing the load placed on all the drive train components and you increase the power going to those same components something has gotta give. I HATE having everybody waiting on me just because something broke. Less weight = cheaper parts and hopefully less down time due to breakage.

i have driven over a mile on a non beadlock rim with the outer bead off. never lost the inner bead. this was driving back from blacks. up and down hills, plenty off turns and rocks. I just don't see the need for double beadlocks.

I don't remember needing them. Even when my tires were flat and I was still driving on them I did not loose the inner bead.;)

How did all 4 of your tires become flat???

Give up?

They had to be burping air from the inner bead. You may not ever lose the bead but with double beadlocks you wont burp air either.

But I totally agree that they are not a necessity. Just one of the nicer things :greg:

Yeah, I am not real sure as to why they lost all their pressure so fast. BroncoMama has stated that IROK's seem to do that and that the cure was to run a bead of silicon to prevent this from happening in the future. I am still eye balling a new set of 17" beadlock wheels. But, the price of tires is more for the 17's than it is for the 15's. I just don't get it. There is less tire for a 17 than there is for the 15 but the 17's are more expensive.

I dont understand it either. My 44x19.5x16.5 Pitbulls retailed for about 500 bucks. My 37x12.5x20 Toyos were 550. Half the rubber and 50 bucks more.

In all honesty I say keep the 15" wheels. You have them, they work great, they look great. No reason to change.

I just like to stir the pot now and then
