Tired of getting harrassed by cops

I worked at a convenience store on graveyards years ago and had cops come in for coffee or a drink and it made me feel alot safer knowing they were around. I still see them around sometimes and they're still friends after 20 years. I got lots of tickets and even spent a few days in jail a few times and at about 35 I figured out that I could very easily avoid all the crap by just being a little more responsible.:-\

Forcing an adult to wear a seat belt is bs, that law was ramrodded through by the insurance companies using SUWA tactics. The cost of cleaning up an accident pales in comparison to the money ins companies spend on the people who get hurt. In time there will be another law/policy that states if you get in an accident and are not wearing a seat belt your insurance company is not responsible for your care, mark my words on that one.

I wear my seatbelt on two occasions... any time I'm doing over 100mph for any length of time and any time I plan on getting retarded on an obstacle.

Oh and yes, there is an argument for your wearing of your seatbelt benefiting the safety of others... it can keep you in your seat and in control of your vehicle which may keep you from hurting someone else be they in your car or another car.

But walking through junk yards and seeing trucks (let alone the death trap econoboxes) that are messed up so badly that you can't identify their make still isn't enough to make me buckle up.

I have no problem with getting pulled over at night as long as they are nice and send me on my way as soon as they know I'm not drunk... it's a small price to pay to keep drunks off the street.

I think that if most people would drop the attitudes when they get pulled over they would receive much better treatment. Cops have a scary job, do whatever you can to ease the situation and you will be much happier with the outcome, ie shut your junk off, turn your dome light on, keep your hands still and visible, let the officer come to terms with your environment before you start in on him....

I have received 7 tickets in my life 4 were justified and 3 weren't.

1) speeding, I was but didn't know it Justified
2) expired reg, it was Justified
3) expired reg, it was and so was the trailer but he only wrote me for one Justified
4) speeding, he flat out lied and yes I beat it. Neaner neaner
5) spotlighting, total b!tch of a cop. Caught me doing nothing, I told her what we were doing with no fear because for the previous 9 months I had talked to at least one officer a night 3 nights a week and they always told me to be careful have fun (after determining that I wasn't drinking) I have no words... Did I mention that she made us stand in the cold with no coats and dropped my $600 gun on the ground?
6) loaded weapon in vehicle, it wasn't by the old law and was by the new... I told the ahole about the gun before he even asked me any questions.. yet I ended up cuffed while they tore apart my truck. I got a ticket for the loaded weapon and he wrote me for no proof of ins because his stupid ass couldn't find the card and he wouldn't let me get it. 3 of the other 4 officers who stopped basically told me this guy was a prick and they would have given me a verbal warning. Legal, but Justified?
#) another expired reg and no proof of ins in there somewhere Justified

And before you jump my shite, I had ins every time.

I think even I would wear my seatbelt if I was going to take my Jeep over a 100 :D. I assume your talking about something else though;).

I agree with everything you said...except I have had 39 moving violations since I turned 16 which were pretty much all justified:ugh:. Fortunately most of those was when I was younger and it's slowed down considerably in my older years.

I especially agree about giving them a break when they pull you over by turning on your dome light and showing them your hands, etc. It goes a long way in creating an atmosphere of trust. I can't imagine how many tickets I would have if my father didn't teach me to respect the law .

Do we ever come to your places of employment and question how you folks do your jobs?

Umm,, no you don't but then again, my place of employment cannot hold people in a jail cell, or arrest people if they are breaking the rules.

My 2 cents,, not that anybody cares, (especially since I am quickly becoming labeled as a "liberal" -_- :greg: ) I have only ever been pulled over once that I thought was not justified and it was when I was driving my Range Rover and I was pulled over for having my front plate on upside down. My buddies decided to play a joke on me and I never got around to flipping it back over. The Bountiful LEO that pulled me over was an ass plain and simple, made me get out of my rig and stand in outside of the vehicle while he called in my plates. (granted I wasn't really nice either, especially when he told me why he pulled me over, but oh well)

I was in a fatal accident back in July of 90, drove off a 40' cliff and landed upside down in my 83 Mustang. Yes, it was fatal, I was legally dead when they arrived. My injuries were so bad that every drop of blood was gone in my body. They had to fill me up with IV to revive me.

I had my seat belt on, and sustained major injuries from it. I had a BLACK bruise from just behind my shoulder blade all the way down my chest to my lap and then another across my lap. That bruise lasted about 4 weeks in some places. The impact and the seat belt caused my chest to collapse and significant internal bleeding, and 3 shattered vertebrae. Had I not been wearing my seatbelt, I would have suffered way worse injuries and definately would not be walking to tell about it today.

In the accident I was cited for 'failure to show proof of insurance to a police offer when asked to do so', I fought and won this, 'I was dead your honor and didn't hear the officer ask - here is my insurance card that was in the glove box at the time' it was covered in blood, charge dismissed. I was also charged with traveling at a high rate of speed and driving under the influence of alcohol. The high rate of speed was circumstantial, as they had one witness that said I was going too fast. There were no skid marks on the pavement, or in the gravel on the side of the road where I went off. That was droped. The DUI was also dropped becuase they could not prove that I was drunk at the time. No breathalizer test done, no roadside idiot game incompleted, and the blood test from the hospital showed I had less than .001%. So basically I sat in jail for like 4 weeks becuase of all of this and then was released after I was cleared of all charges.

I was only saying I get pulled over ALOT. And for the record I have only had ONE ticket since I got my drivers licence for doing 9 over in a 25.

I just think it's a shame that I have to get threatened by an officer of the law for doing nothing more than speaking my mind. Anyone who knows me will tell you that I'm a very opinionated preson, and I feel that's what defines me and makes me who I am. I will continue to have a voice and opinion as long as this country and it's politics will allow because that's one of the things that makes living here SOOO great! Whether joking or not this guy has NO idea of who I am or what I do, so how can he even justify saying something like that?

That's all I have to say on this (worthless) thread. I joined RME to talk about and discuss wheelin' and everything that goes with it. It's a shame that complaining and whining has it's small place here :-\

Wayne, I'm curious how they could say your BAC was over legal when you didn't have any blood when they found you....

They (CHP) was trying to get me on every charge they could. They made no attempts to check into any facts before arresting me or trying me. After I was finally able to walk into court, there was no proof and all charges were dropped. The arresting officer was even there at the hearing.

At the time of being charged, they probably didn't think I would ever be revived and able to fight the charges. And saw it as a easy way to point the blame on me. Turns out this road had a lot of accidents and deaths on it. It was Lucas Valley Road in Marine.

Personally, I think I either fell asleep behind the wheel or I was getting a CD out of the back and didn't see the turn. This happened on Monday morning, around 830am. I started partying Friday night and have people that know of me not stopping until Sunday morning when I went home to get ready for work. I then worked the graveyard shift and then was going to? I don't remember anything about a week prior to the accident, not becuase I was out of it, just becuase of the accident. I was going to school full time during the day and working full time graveyard shifts. I spent my 21st b'day in jail over the accident.

Ok, just to ease everyones mind, I was joking about calling officers. I don't even know (Ok, one but I pretend I don't know him) any officers in Logan.

My point was, most of the time if we find you sober we don't give you the other ticket because we are trying to be nice, not because we are violating anyones rights.

Hell, I used to drive this thing on the road all the time

I got plenty of tickets. Now that it sits torn apart in my garage and it has been trailered the last few years, I can't remember the last time I was pulled over.

I'm not a fan of the current seatbelt laws, either make it a primary stop law or toss it.

"you know how fast you were going?"
"uh.. .maybe 85?"
" really."
"yeah, this POS can't go all that fast" (rental Neon)
"you were doing 109."
"  :ugh: uh, wow. So... do you just shoot me for that? Cut up my license right here? Holy cow. I HONESTLY did not think I was going that fast"
"Hmm. I believe you, you looked pretty surprised.... but, you're paying something for that. How's 70 in a 65, call it a tourism fee."
" Uh, yeah, that sounds pretty sweet, Officer, thank you."
"Keep your foot out of it, alright? Have a good trip."

Something like that. Definitely amazed me on all counts.

So lets see, we have underage drinking ('spent my 21st birthday in jail', after a weekend party), spotlighting (sorry, but shine a spot light around with a gun in your vehicle and you are illegal), reckless driving (109 mph) etc etc

And some how the cops are the bad guys? I don't get it!

Have I done stupid things behind the wheel? Yes, but have learned over the years and try to do better. Have I had my cop frustrations? Yes.

But far more good 'run-ins' than bad. Stopped out side Rocksprings, doing about 15 over and with a broken tail light, sent on my way with a verbal fix-it.

Pulled over for expired registration. Had the current registration in my car but had never gotten around to putting the sticker on. While one cop checked my license, his partner put the sticker on for me! Way cool.:)

To all the cops on the board, keep up the good work! And I think a few more of our members need to be taken off the road.....

For those 'opinionated' types, put the complaints and energy to useful practice and get involved politically. Idle rants solve nothing but political process can.
