Too tall???

So I just installed 2 1/2 inch lift springs on my Jeep that is already SOA and has 1 1/2 inch lift shackles. It is looking really tall!!

One question... How tall is too tall? Anyone have a good idea of what a good ride height is? I haven't taken it wheeling yet since I am still waiting on a rear driveline (I just installed a SYE). Some people like the height, I don't mind the look but I am kinda worried about the performance. Maybe I should wait to wheel it before I start taking it down, I still have the stock shackles to put back on if needs be.

Opinions.. comments??

lol, yeah, parker is a huge *****.

What is that, like 8" of lift? On a YJ Or something that would be ok if you have 40" tires and full widths. My ZJ sits around 5" ish of lift and I run 37's and want to go to a bigger tire.

It kinda depends you're running gear.

I am planning on keeping my TJ at 4" with 35's, but it is a DD as well.

are they new springs?

if so just take it out and wheel it. they will settle more then you think.

From what I know they only have a few trips to Moab on them. This is also my DD for short trips and the occasional trip to trails more than 300 miles away. It has a Wagoneer front axle and a Rodeo rear axle. They aren't much larger than stock but a little wider.

The springs were on a CJ that was SOA with reverse shackles. Seems like it is a good setup I just wanted to get other opinions. Tires are 33's and they look a lot smaller now for some strange reason  :D .

Thanks for all of the replys thus far

IMO, 33s with that setup is WAY too much lift...I ran 2.5" ranchos SOA on my Wrangler and had 35s...I could have likely fit 37s with no rubbing...if you're only running 33s why not just use stock or RE SOA springs? You'll get a much nicer ride and better flex...

I agree w/ Caleb, he knows YJ SOA's.

If you wanted to keep the new leaves, I'd say pull one of the lower leaves untill it settles to the desired height, then stick it back in. But, from what I have noticed of YJ spring packs... once they start to loose their height, it's downhill from there. They slowly sag untill in negative arch.

^^^ What he said...
You are probably over the legal height also, which is 24" for your rig from the ground to your frame rail.

I think the lift law is a great guideline for a stable rig. That gives you 24" from the ground to the frame. If you were to add a lot of unsprung weight, say some heavy Swamps on heavier steel beadlocks and one ton axles, that could lower you center of gravity enough to make things work just as well at a taller height.

I do plan to run some larger tires in the future but for right now that is all I have to run on it. I have to wait for the tires to wear out before I talk the boss into letting me get larger tires :D .

I had the stock springs on it but I broke the front 2 springs and I wanted to go a little higher eventually. I know the stock ones had sagged a ton but I had heard of a few people that liked the 2 1/2 setup. I did like the way the stock springs flexed though. I am thinking I will take the longer shackles off and use the stock ones.

How did your YJ ride with those 2 1/2 springs.. did you like it?

When I built my dad's we used JC Whitney one-inch rear springs all around. Just about perfect for 33s.

What do you run on the front of yours??
Many many many mixed leaves from various packs. I think the main leaves are 2.5". Mine is 24" from the bottom of the frame to the ground with 38.5" tires. I bet yours is about the same height with 33s.
