alright, Ill play too :)

My first toyota was also my first vehicle I got when I was 16, it was a 1990 toyota 4runner, with the 3.0, and 5 speed manual. It was bone stock, and had 220k on it when I bought it. I put new tires on it, and a muffler to get it to pas safety, and it past emissions with flying colors!! I beat the crap out of that rig, and a year later, it wouldnt pass safety and emissions (and I had a samurai, so I couldnt keep both) so I sold the runner for what I bought it for a year prior, which was 1k. It left my place with 228k if I remember right. Sorry I cant find any pics of it

I then had a samurai, blazer (sort of), and then a Jeep. Sold the Jeep, and got my current rig.

1985 yota Xcab, factory SA, and factory EFI 2.4L.

How I bought it:

Then I did some work on it, and changed out the front springs for RUFs (I wanted the front axle pushed 2" forward) and had a tube bed built

The bed didnt come out exactly how I wanted it too, but It still looked alright, if I had to do it again, I would have kept the bed, or have built the bed myself so it would be exacty what I wanted. But I have enjoyed it, Time to move onto the next project tho!

Thanks steve! I see you have been busy with all your rigs;) You definately have a forgiving wife, if I spent that much time/money on my toys I think I would be single by now, lol. Really though good job on everything, I love reading through your builds.

Had I only known:

1. How awesome the Toyota guys are around here on RME I would have undoubtedly picked up a Toyota instead of my current Jeep.

2. How affordable a well-built Toyota set up for crawling is.

Is it not too late? :)

No not too late just sell the jeep and buy a yota, heck i bet you could buy a well built yota for the price youd sell your jeep for, but im not going to start the argument of which is better, only that i love mine and think it wheels like a champ:)

I'll put the finishing touches on the Jeep with mounting the Swing out tire carrier and getting the ladder bar... then I may highly consider that proposal.

make sure you drive one first, they're not for everyone. They generally don't have a ton of power, and you sit with your legs in front of you, rather than below you because the floor sits higher in the toyotas than jeeps. If you can get over those two minor setbacks, you'll be good. Neither of those "setbacks" bother me at all.

i think you mean the seat sits lower to the floor steve:)
But yes they are a little different but i guess it just depends what you are driving before, if you are in a sidekick then go to say a 22re or 3.0 you might actually like the power better

I was riding my dirt bike on the slick rock trail in Moab years ago, on a section where it overlaps with Hell's Revenge. There was an obstacle(wish I knew the name of it), which was bypassable, on the trail. There was the normal line up the steps or there was a big boulder looking object to its side. I saw a Toyota take that crazy line over the boulder with ease. It was very impressive, so I do know that a Toyota is highly capable.

I saw the samething in moab lots of rigs would struggle on a object or couldnt do it then a yota walks up and over time and time again it is very impressive, its one of the reasons i wanted one:greg:

I believe you guys are talking about Dump Bump. That place was like crack to Toyota guys. Too bad it's off limits now.

Along those same lines, I could never get my 4 Runner over Widowmaker, where as my Jeeps always made it. Doesn't mean Toyota's are garbage.

When you're comparing rigs, you're mostly just comparing wheel base. Brand really doesn't matter.

BC nailed it, wheelbase is a major factor in capability when you are talking about crawling Moab-like trails/obstacles. Dump Bump was crack for Toyota guys, that comment made me laugh.

Here is some pics of my tacoma d-cab pretty much stock just a leveling kit and slightly bigger tires. Has done pretty much anything I have pointed it at but just like you guys say the wheel base helps alot. I have done all the big obsticles on hells revenge except for the big hot tub. I was hoping to retire it from trail duty but the rc isnt done so metal masher and cliff hanger are on the agenda for this ejs.

I know exactly where your talking about, its near the beginning of the trail. Its down in a wash right at the bottom of a couple fins you can turn right. The obstacle climbs up out of the wash at the end where it intersects the main trail.

I've got some pics somewhere of that obstacle. I broke a rear shaft on my FJ40 on it, and Muleskinner had to go into town and find a junkyard shaft while I stayed and fought off the mountain bikers because my junk was blocking the trail. :D
