Yes and no...

I like the RR4W 1-5 scale... it is simple and well understood by our community (4x4ers)

For RS and Con, I think that the 1-5 would work, but thinking towards the future, we do need to incorporate ATV's as well... Alot of ATV's use the RS trail.. (I did take my YZ on CON :D)

If in the future, we are able to designate more trails in the area, the ratings are going to have to be easy to understand by all users... (4x4-ATV-etc)

So the question is... do we make them learn the 1-5 or do we adapt to something more universal?

Do ATV'ers have any rating system now?

I think we should use the Lucky Charms rating system:

Pink Heart=Easy, will not cause heart damage
Purple Horseshoe=Many tight turns
Orange Star=Expect very steep climbs
Green Clover=Do you feel lucky?

Maybe not...

You can't do that though. A trail that is easy to a Jeep may be impassable to a four wheeler, and a trail that is easy for a four wheeler, may be impassable to a jeep. You can't just put a rating on a trail and expect it to apply equally to all users. So we need to decide who we are making these trails, and these signs for. I think we are making them for four wheelers, and that's who the signs should be made to apply to.

I think we are loosing the sence of direction. If the sign is going to be directed at the 4x4ers and talking about body damage, lockers, and such. Then why should the rating be directed at another source???

Sorry I didn't read all of the 80000 pages in land use.

Good point...

The reason this is an issue is because of the high ATV use in the area. By far there are more ATV's users than 4x4s on any given weekend.

The "masterplan" for the 5 Mile-Pass area is to make an entire system of trails, not just RS and Con. While the 1-5 system works great for those two trails, it may not work for other trails that we establish in the future.

RS started as a ATV trail and is still widely used by them... does our "trail maintaince" program aim to keep them from stacking rocks as well as our own?

Too many questions... :D

What colors will 2 and 4 be? Are you an odd numbered biggot, or do you just have a thing against even numbers? (Inquiring minds need to know!)
