When you have just ponied up big money for the trailer it can seem like a lot but a trailer isn't some thing you necessarily want to go cheap on.
Lose a trailer tire and get stranded or roll it. You will wish you paid the extra $100.
Spent the extra $100 on what? I don't follow.
The trailer was only $800 and apart from having plywood over the deck (cause it is crappy) it's in great shape. I bought it from my wife's uncle who used it for his roofing company. For the last 2 years it acted as a shelf cause they didn't want to put new tires on it.
Not a huge deal if i have to spend $500 on some good tires with road hazard certs. If they last 4 years that is not a bad investment at all.

X2 Mine are MESA A/P and no problems but I have heard others say they are so so. I believe it is a truck tire. Be sure and have them balanced.

Haha I am pretty much set on going to Discount and just getting it over with. I can't find the Carlisle radials cheaper ANYWHERE online for them to match the price... I have always had Discount match the lowest price I can find but when they're the lowest it doesn't work.
I believe the out-the-door total for 4 tires with certs is $498 but I'll keep the old tires and save $12. I figure I will keep them around and maybe even take a couple on trips in case I blow more than one tire and can't find one etc etc. An old, crappy tire is better than no tire at all.

Don't buy trailer tires!!!! Buy LT tires!!! Ask me how I know? I buy my tires at discount. I have blown more damn tires than I can count on my trailers in the last few years. So I start researching on line trying to figure out why. I found the trailer tires are built much cheaper than truck tires because of liability on truck verses trailer. Think about it, you blow a tire on your trailer. Boom, flapa,flapa,flapa..... cuss words, pull over change it. Blow a tire on your loaded truck and someone might die. So I bring this up with my discount guy..... and he says... well look at the speed rating on your trailer tire. It is only rated for 65 miles an hour. You drive faster than that you build up heat and your tire tread separates. I say hell of course I exceed that on I70, the speed limit is 75. Well your trailer tire isn't made to go that fast.

Hmmm, looking at my trailer tires again tonight, don't recall seeing 65mph limit on them.
Got them at Draper BigO, oh, and a Les Schwab in Wells, NV when a spring broke and shredded the tire & stuff.
I upsized to 225's a few years ago for a higher load rating.

Ditto on upsizing to 225's. I did that on my trailer and have been much happier. Went through a lot of 205's before I switched. They're slightly taller but not by much. If you've got the clearance it's worth a few extra bucks for the higher load rating.

Not saying all trailer tires are rated for 65. Mine were. Lettering on the side dictates what speed it's rated for. The one discussion I read, the guy weighed LT and trailer tires of the same size and brand. He found in almost all cases the LT tires weighed way more. I would assume as he did that the truck tire had more material (rubber,steel,etc) in it than the trailer tires. He talked to a tire manufacturer insider. That person is the one who told him about the liability difference between the two. It's been a while since I read the article so I can't remember where it was.

I was blowing out load range C 205's all the time on the highway. On 1 trip from Boise to Moab, I blew 2 there and 1 back. I switched to load range E 225's and have had no blowouts for 4 years.

Oddly, the best tires were the P-rated radials that were on it when I bought the trailer. I don't even think I noticed it for a couple of years. Then I ran 205's from Hendersons and many issues.
No issues with the 225's that weren't related to broken springs. (2 in 2 years). Looking at a double hauler and considering tandem, triple, and tandem duals. At that point I'll have to use big boy tires.

So many guys put the cheapest tire they can find then complain when stuff goes bad.
