bringing this back! does anyone know of any deals? it looks like the jd2 model 3 and pro tools 105 are the same price and they seem comparable as well. i have $600 to spend

I have a used JD2 M3 with stand & extended handle for sale (no dies included). $400 OBO

i have a hitch-mounted stand already and probably enough scrap to build a handle so that's not the deal for me but thanks. the only thing that would be nice is to not have to pay shipping lol

carl's bender setup will surely be too pricey for me as well. i pulled the trigger on a jd2 model 3 w/degree ring, handle and a 1.5" die for $600 to my door. prices on benders and dies seemed to be the exact same on all the sites i checked but m-tech supply had the cheapest shipping (by like $35) and no tax so it was an easy choice.

i'm excited!

Hydro could be in my future but we'll see. I've seen some that are so slow and loud that I'd rather do it by hand anyways. Plus it's not like I do this for a living.

I also picked up a HF notcher today. We'll see how much modding it needs to work well enough for me

meh.

Altho the JD2 is WAAYY nice....I havent been able to justify the cost of one. Its just a glorified HF in my opinion.

Now if your talking a Baliegh........drooooool

Just keep the HF knotcher lubed up and its fine. Especially for a guy who doesnt do it for a living

You can't possibly be talking about the Notch Master, if you're comparing it to a HF notcher. There is NO comparison.

In fact, I have a HF notcher sitting in a drawer I haven't used for quite a few years....and it's very likely to never get used again. Anyone want to buy it? :D

Nate, you never checked with me to see how much a bender would cost ya. Now that you've already ordered a M3, it doesn't matter....but with the same die, you wouldn't have been too much more into one like mine. You would have had to invest a bit of work in parts running-around and assembly though.

I didn't check with you for a couple reasons-

I figured it would be more and I don't have the budget for it right now
I'd have to buy a new air compressor so that would really kill the budget- not to mention figuring out where to put the compressor in my 2-car garage. i hate air compressors
The manual bender can go anywhere that has a receiver hitch using the mount i built several years ago.

your bender is sweeeet (just like everything else your magic fire computer makes) but it's not for me as of right now

The notchmaster is far far far superior to the harbor freight notcher in every way possible...........

I am not knocking the notchmaster. But you can buy 10 HF notchers for the same price. If you use them everyday you will burn thru 10 of them in a year and the JD2 would be worth the investment.

People like me that use a notcher maybe a couple times a year, the HF is fine. With a few mods and sometimes getting creative you can get a lot of good copes done.

If you find the HF unit on sale and take in the 20% off coupon in.....25 bucks

The reason I wasnt impressed with the JD2 and the Baleigh tromps it is all in the clamp. You cant perfectly clamp a bent tube in it. Just like the HF.

You'll also need to pay yourself for your frustration and wasted hole saws as you fight with those 10 HF notchers. ;)

The TN-250 is very nice, no doubt. BUT, it's also $600...it better be nice.

The "basic" Baileigh, or JD2, or Pro Tools notchers are all going to operate similarly to the Harbor Freight POS....just using real bearings, a stronger shaft, stiffer frame, and better/stronger clamp. The Notch Master stiffens things up even more, plus allows you to get more creative with clamping, and easily adjust the position of the holesaw to center your notches, or do offset notching. I don't think you can beat it for the price.

If you want even more flexibility, SWAG makes some cool add-ons for it, too.

I have the HF one, I only use it for 90° joints, anything else I use bendtech's printout wrappers and a cutoff wheel/flap disk on a 4.5" grinder.
