With alljeep offering deals on gears I'm wondering if I should be getting some. My truck doesn't get the best mpg and I'm thinking gears would help. Right now I have 33s with the stock gears. What should I go with and what mpg increase could I expect to see?

I had 4.56 gears with 33s, I think it was as close to stock as I could expect (my speedo was almost right on). I never had any problems with power and my mpg were 16-18 (realistically).

Was your truck supercharged? I average 12 every single tank.

are you calculating for a larger tire? Your odometer still thinks you have stock 30" tires. With 33's, your odometer will read slower than you're actually going (and it'll look like you're getting worse mileage than you really are.)

Yes I am calculating it in. I get to add about 9% of my miles on to the total. It usually calculates in low to mid 11's so I add .9 of a mpg to my total. The main reason I usually sell my vehicles is due to mpg. My rigs usually start out with decent mpg and within a month they suck so it gets me upset and I just say oh well, I'll sell it. I'm working through it this time though.

That makes a huge difference. I pulled a flatbed 8'x10' trailer from here to Glenwood Springs and back (back with my Husky m/c) and I was lucky if I got 9mpg...usually was much lower. I don't care what anyone claims, these trucks blow for any kind of towing.

4.56s are great for 33's. 4.88s are great for 35's. Even with a 4-banger, 5.29's were too low for 35's (had a buddy with 'em in his rig.)

Yes they dobbeven with the s/c it definitely likes to downshift. For around town I love it and it's perfect. 3 months down, 9 to go. Then I can hopefully retire this to trail duty and pick up something more suited for my towing.

Nope. Bolts still wouldn't budge. So I sprayed em more. I'll let them sit for the weekend. Hopefully they'll loosen up sooner than later.

I did the u bolt flip on my rear axle so I couldn't use my stock bump stops. I have way too much flex into my wheel wells and I don't want to rip the flares off. What do you guys recommend that work good?

But how do I mount them? Before the were held in by the square part of the u bolt but now they're flipped so there's nothing to hold them down. Tack them on the u bolt plate?

Yup. Either that or you could weld them to that little bracket thing dangling from your frame. The part that curently comes in contact with the bump stop.

Yep that was me. I saw you too and figured it was you. Looked like you were pulling a pretty heavy load for your truck. Sweet truck.
