who has used what or what do you like.

i recently read an article about a u-joint tool, made by a company of the same name but cant seem to find where to order that particular one :-\
so what else is out there, and what do you like, what works for you.

thanks

You can do it without the vice but it is a little harder. You'll need a nice flat surface (like a bumper) to hammer on. Personally I like to take a complete spare shaft or driveline ready to throw in. That way you don't have to mess with changing joints on the trail.

i know how to do it, but i am looking for a tool to do it for me-- why break stuff if you dont have to-- besides-- i often hit myself with that hammer more than what i was aiming at

Yeah I hear you. I seem to recall a C clamp looking press gizmo. Is that what you are talking about? I imagine you could take a large C clamp and "modify" it so it would be perfect for pressing out the joint one way....pull off the cap, turn it around, do it the other way, repeat for the other two.

The Ball Joint tool from HF works good for u-joints, great for seized and rusted in place joints. Downside is that it is kinda a 3 handed operation.

i'm talking trail fix here-- although i suppose i could mount a vise to the jeep somewhere :D

I have a vice mounted on a reciever hitch. If I need it for a repair on a long trail I can through it in and use it... any other time, I leave it out because of teh weight.

the only reason I wouldn't post his # here is dunno if he wants it published...

but with already 2 pm's + me, maybe we could work out a group purchase and lower the price...

lemme know...I don't mind managing it...
