being boring, broken down, (and in your case bald) i think is part of that "jeep thing" that us Yota guys don't really understand.. or do we? and that's why we drive toyotas?;)

-Jason

Wha... huh????

Just when I think I understand, I get this???

I wasn't bored because I love to watch Eric learn and wheel. I didn't break down and don't remember a "Jeep" that did anything major. My underbuilt, short wheelbase Jeep is making wheeling more interesting because I really have drive again, instead of point and go.

And the bald thing, well, and this may come as a shock, but unlike being stupid, being folicly challenged isn't a life choice. :p

Amasa Basin Trail Run:

We had 13 vehicles in our group, most new faces to me but great folks to be out on the trail with . Dan Bringard gave us an EXCELLENT tour of the area and included TONS & TONS of history of the area. We visited mines, cabins, pictoglyphs, radio towers, etc. Though the trail was a bit on the easy side, Dan made up for it with the chat of the yesteryear.

We made a quick stop at the northern edge of the Sevier (dry?) Lake, what an interesting place. It looks soooo inviting to drive on, but 100 yards in your as good as sunk this time of year :D

The veiws were second to none, we could see into the mountains of Nevada, great aerial views of the Tule Valley and tha Sevier Lake.

Thanks again for the great day, the Notch Peak crew & Dan did an excellent job!

you know i'm just playin... true story: there were hundreds of bumper stickers made a few years ago that said, "If Jason Goates said it, it's a lie".. it was on just about every car in the highschool parking lot.:D

i hope to wheel with you and Eric more. there will be a new yota club popping up really soon, so stay tuned for that;) ... you both are encouraged to join... cause clearly, you rock.

i also thought it was fun to see your son's 4runner in action since i'd considered buying too...

I also had a great time on chainsaw. Great trail. It was nice to put names to faces.
Bart and Son, it was great to meet and wheel with you. Nice runner.
Sammi, another sweet runner.
And the oddest couple that I have ever seen.... A scout and a rover..... both some sweet rigs.
All the others that I don;t remember names for right now.... It was great to wheel with you guys too.
I (when I say "I", I mean my father) have 2 video clips of chainsaw, bassically the first half and the second half. both are about 55mb but are in HD. I will have them posted some time tomorrow.
For comparison, here are some video clips of Cat Canyon from febuary of this year.

Cruiseroutfit pretty well summed it up. Kudos to Dan Brigard for his excellent guiding. According to Dan these mountains are drivable year round. We talked to him after the dinner and he showed on his map another route in the area that takes you over by Swazey Peak. Anyone that hasn't been out there yet should go. It's really remote and senic. It's true that it's not a difficult trail but sometimes its nice to just get out in the wild and enjoy the beauty. Dan also made a point that the Sierra Club and SUWA are working hard to close off the mountain ranges out there so noone will be able drive there again. We need to get out there and use these trails.

We had a great time on chainsaw but broke just about everything we could. Here is a partial list distributed over a TJ, CJ, and XJ:
Broken brake line TJ
Bent belly pan forcing fan into radiator shroud TJ
Broken rear driveshaft CJ
Broken belly pan on CJ
Upper control arm XJ
Lower control arm XJ
Crushed brake line XJ
Basically a grenaded front end.
Forgotten keys on Sunday making for a 100 mile drive just to fetch em.

A big thanks to Les Keytle (sp)? and Keith Shurtz. They are the nicest guys I have run into. They helped us extract the XJ on Sunday and got us up and going again. If you ever need help in the Delta area give Keith a call. He runs Keiths Repair 435-864-2593

You forgot the bent shock and broken straps on the front drive shaft. The torn lower control arm mount and both the upper mounts half torn off. I guess that all falls under grenaded front end.:p
Thanks again for running back to town for my key. Next time you need a practice dummy to work on you boot to the head, give me a call.
I also have to say a big thanks to Les and Keith, two of the best guys I have ever met. ;)

oh looks like everyone left you huh? On the way out we talked to the trail leader and he said you guys were fine. We told him your situation and that you were at the end of the trail and still had to get down.

Too bad, made for a bad day i'm sure.
