But I tend to agree with Cody....
I see it as a battle of educating the masses, not an us versus them....
Pro access needs to be emphasized, not anti-whatever....

for a bill board, yes, but for a bumper sticker not at all.

We need people on the extremes to combat extreme environmental groups, the real fight lies in our ability to educate the masses and gain their support.

you know, the thought has occured to me that it may make sense to create a new organization that is a little more of an 'extremeist' access group that would exist just to draw the fire from environmental groups and battle specifically with SUWA and other eco-crazy groups on their level. Let all the bad PR and bad press get targeted towards the pseudo dummy organization that is merely just a front for more radical propaganda and writing, while USA-ALL gets labled as the Hero organization that is desperately trying to bridge the gap by educating the masses and bringing the different sides together.

hell, they all hate Rainer Huck already, make him take one for the team and have him be the vocal extremist (he's most of the way there anyway) and draw the bad PR away from USA-ALL

What if your billboard reminds people of why we need access?

Have a picture of an elderly person, young children, or a handicapped person enjoying a view that was only made possible by a road (one of the vistas in Moab, or something like that)

Caption it with "this land is their land too, protect everyone's access to . . ."

Cody is onto something . . .

if you are going to mount a very visible/public campaign, it should be something that everyone can get behind, and that will not put off anybody.
Make your campaign above reproach so that when SUWA starts to attack USA-ALL the people who have only seen your billboards will react negatively to their attacks.

Do not engage in anything that can be interpreted as negative, and public opinion will shift once they get frustrated and respond adversely.

Of course, they are probably monitoring sites like this . . .

The last one was a TOTAL joke.
I agree completely and have been a big supporter of USA-ALL. I was on thier Board for many years starting in '99 with Hawthorne.

It's a tough one, but we need to get the masses to understand that trail closures and wilderness issues affect the weekend camper just as much as the hardcore wheeler. Access is everyone's issue and apathy has always been our biggest obstacle.

If I get some time this weekend I'll toss some more stuff into the mix. It's fun to hear people talking about our image and issues again!!

How about a picture of a family walking down a trail in the redrock counrty, with a young child holding the hand of his mother while he bends down to pick up a piece of trash. at the top of the board have it say "PLEASE do your part"
