It's official. Oct 17-20th.

If others want to stay through the 21st, great, but I'll be heading out on the 20th. I don't have all the details worked out yet, just the dates. Sorry for so many weekdays, but my wife wants to come on this one and she's got Wed's off, so I need to take advantage. You're welcome to meet up with us for a few of the nights if you can't make it all.

I'll start another thread with the details of each day once I figure it out. Route is 871 miles long. i plan on running it north to south.

Just looked at the map in the first post (link). I'm thinking whoever is sporting a Raptor will be happiest on this trip. Next up, any IFS rig with a rear locker.

Those of us bouncing along in a leaf-sprung solid-axle 1-ton will be depending on aired-down tires.

A word of warning for those who've never run on one of my trips: I like to spend the day exploring and checking things out, and the night relaxing. I don't usually get into camp at 2 PM and hang out for the rest of the day. I'm planning on arriving at camp around 5 or 6, with enough light to set up tents and still eat dinner.

This is still a work in progress, but here's what I'm thinking...

Tuesday, Oct 16th
Tuesday night: meet and camp somewhere up in Logan near Bear Lake, or some other cool camping spot. (paging Rot Box)
a
Wednessday
AM: Leave camping spot (bear lake area). Drive to Uintas.
Noon: gas @ Evanston
PM: camp at Lost Lake in the Uintas.

Thursday
AM: Leave Lost Lake
Noon: Gas @ Wellington
PM: camp at Cedar Mountain Rec Area (or another cool place in the swell)

Friday
AM: Leave Cedar Mountain Rec Area
Noon: Gas @ green River
PM: Camp in Moab somehwere remote and cool.

Saturday
AM: Leave Moab
Noon:Gas up in Blanding
PM: Camp outside of Blanding

Sunday
AM: head home

I'm in, but I'll be coming in from Medicine Wheel WY. Looks like 8 hours for me to get to Garden City via Yellowstone but I may go through Lander instead if there are any weather issues.

Steve, is it jeep stuff or will my f150 do it? May be fun to toss the motorized cycles in if it not too rough. Football or last trip to Lake Powell may be in the way I am really thinking about this one

I've never been on it, but I'd assume an f150 would be fine. I don't anticipate putting my rig in 4wd at all.

Lockhart Basin is an optional route, I'm not sure what the other option is, but obviously it will be easier than Lockhart.

I think it could be a mistake to assume that 4WD won't be needed. Part of the UTBDR runs thru Black Dragon Canyon in the Swell... it's not crazy, but there are some wash crossings that are pretty steep to climb into and out of and plenty of rocks in the area. There is also plenty of mention of sand along the route, so a decently capable 4x4 will be important.

You can also download the routes GPS tracks at the UTBDR site - http://www.utbdr.com/
