Utah Fender Laws and Jeeps?

And the tire coverage isn't the usual issue, it's when they get you for speeding, or a red light violation or other moving offense, and then when you are already pulled over is when they check for tire coverage, mudflaps, license plate illumination, body lifts, frame height, wheel spacers, taillight tint, window tint etc...

Sometimes, I even wish mine can go fast enough to get a speedy ticket..

Btw, have you heard people duct tape flares just to pass inspection?

I remember Coco was getting pulled over just about daily when he had his TJ. That cop would pull him over for the littlest things.

I had a similar issue with one particular UHP officer in Price. Before he started working down there I had no issues with any of the local leos. For some reason, this newb had it out for me and my rig and would pull me over every time and write me new fender/flap ticket.

I honestly don't remember his name. It was ~2002-03 ish
edit: I think I know who you are talking about. I went to school with a J. Vasquez. He pulled us over about 4 years ago when we had an XJ on 35's but was missing flaps at the time.

Hoping I Don't Get Much Backlash, But I Have The Body Armor With Just The 3 Inch Flare And The Tube Fenders Up Front. Although I Spent The First Part Of This Yeah Making Myself Flares Out Of Semi mudflaPs. I Took Them Off Once ItGot Dry. I Think It May Come Down To a Few Reasons Why i Haven't Gotten a Ticket. Maybe i Just Haven't Found That Cop Who Cares. But i Don't Give Them a Reason To Either. I Turn My Music Down Around Them. And I Drive Under ThE Three C. Calm Cool And Collective. Never Speed And Always courteous. (Although Technically Breaking A Law) Another Part May Be That I'm Only Running 33. i Try My Best Not To Go Anywhere If It's Wet. As Far As The DuctTape Idea. i Asked My Inspector And He Said The Flares Can Be Made Out Of Anything As Long As They Can Reflect Water, Snow, Rocks And Don't Flap At Speed. (Obviously That'll Get Noticed)

If Their Window Is Down I Do. Although Being Hard Of Hearing In A Topless Jeep I'm Bound To Bother Someone. Luckily Most People Love their AC ;-) I Didn't Feel I Needed To Explain that Further Considering It Was Mainly About Police Enforcement We Were Talking About.

When I use to have my 85 4runner on 35's I would get pulled over once a month for mud flaps and when the top was off once a week. I now have my tacoma on 33's and have been pulled over once in a year and a half. In Ogden cops use mud flaps as the primary offense to get you pulled over to look for something more serious. In all the times I was pulled over I only received one fix it ticket and warnings every other time.

I don't mind the fender/lift laws here. I remember back many moons ago when they first got put in to law...that was a glorious day.

Is a fender violation a primary offense? I always thought it was a secondary offense so you couldn't be pulled over for it. However, now that I think about it, most other equipment violations are primary offenses so I don't see why fender flares wouldn't be as well.

I don't know whether it is, or isn't primary, but I've been pulled over for lack of mud flaps twice in my current Jeep. Didn't get a ticket either time, not even a fixit, just a verbal warning. I do have the quick disco flaps - got them because of the first time I got pulled over for flaps. Second time, I had wasted one of them again when I forgot to remove them before wheeling and hadn't got around to repairing them yet so they weren't on. Fixed them that evening though...

And, now that I think about it, I wasted one again about a month ago and drove around the past month with just one mud flap - got the other one fixed and put back on less than a week ago.

I agree super-super strongly about ticketing the dump trucks etc. that go down the highway bouncing rocks everywhere they go. I drive in Utah a lot, I go through a lot of windshields... I know it can happen. A buddy is a big time construction super on the east coast, he builds hospitals and five start hotels and stuff like that. He's been out here to hunt with me a few times and we've driven a lot of miles together in several states. He has commented several times on how Utah lets construction equipment get away with murder compared to what he is used to dealing with. Says in a lot of the jurisdictions he builds in, he can't even move equipment if the site is muddy - locals will jack him with fines for even tracking mud down the street!

This state is awesome. One or two of the laws may be a bit much, but that doesn't make the state bad. Personally, I'd rather not have rocks thrown at my windshield from people with inadequate tire coverage.

Is this the same guy who "doesn't need mudflaps because I only drive a couple miles to work"?

That sounds like something I would say. :guilty:

My attitude towards mud flaps has changed since I said that, but I completely forgot that I don't have them on my current truck. I need to throw some on.

"mudflap's" are targeted toward's the wheeler/mallcrawler/lifted rig's when in fact everything should run them, even minivan's and car's and not the gay factory one's either because they don't do shit.My idea is,if they are not damn near draggin, your not covering or stopping nothing.
