TIRE WEAR
1. Check tire wear.
a. ADVISE when:
1) Tread wear bars are touching the road surface.
b. REJECT when:
1) Tread depth is less than 2/32 inch when measured in any two
adjacent major tread grooves at three equally spaced
intervals around the circumference of the tire. (Do not
measure on a tread wear bar).

2) Tire is worn to the extent secondary rubber is exposed in
the tread or sidewall area.

This state is awesome. One or two of the laws may be a bit much, but that doesn't make the state bad. Personally, I'd rather not have rocks thrown at my windshield from people with inadequate tire coverage.

Thanks, Steve. My response was going to be a little less measured, I'm glad you beat me to it.

FYI, be very careful with statements like this.

So why is it that you don't want to run flaps or flares? What benefit do you get by leaving them off?

My opinion of the state is formed for that statement soley off of the regulations imposed. I don't take into consideration anything, considering since I choose to get stationed here because of finally getting to be around good winter weather, plenty of outdoor stuff and time for my family instead of my career. It adds up having to modify vehicles to conform to state laws or local requirements everytime I restation. Bart, I seem to recall the 1st amendment in the Constitution that I am actively sworn to protect allowing me to make any comment I feel of my personal opinion. Since the comment was directed at the Subject of the post it is a statement that few people will even argue that they don't feel the same way. As for the damage I may do, I won't do any! My jeep is trailered to any event outside of driving up and down the street at my house. I have factory OEM flares on my jeep out of courtesy for that regard but in UTAH I have to extend them to be compliant. I do have build plans though in effect for when I do the new axles, suspension and body work to incorporate strett friendly and compliant modifications to make it driveable on the road without risk of any kind in regards to thrown rocks or anything.

Thank you for serving, but if you're going to throw that around in debate like some kind of weapon you might want to educate yourself regarding exactly what Rights you're sworn to protect. The 1st Amendment ensures Freedom of Speech from interference by the government. Neither the 1st Amendment or your service in defense of it give you the right to spout nonsense in a public forum and not get called it by the private citizens that hear or read your opinion.

I'm sorry you have to modify your Jeep every time you restation. I imagine that's probably a pain, and I sympathize. One of the other rights that you defend is the right of each State to enact laws as the populace of that State should decide, directly or through their elected representatives. I should think a man as enamored of his defense of our rights as you are ought to be a little more on board with that.

(I'm Smiling) You are correct Kevin and I am gald that you were able to respond with that so quickly. Generally and arguement stops when people are brought outside their comfort zone. I usually can't share my personal opinions on things due to other restrictions, you may know that. I can make the statement that every state is retarded for one thing or another and I am pretty sure I can come up with something. Someone telling me I can't share my opinion when it is about a detailed and already outlined subject bothers me. If I do not have to fear my government for what I say then I do not fear an individual telling me I can't say something. It is not nonsense, it is a fact that a large majority of people think it is retarded. So for a person to take it out of context is over the top for me. I don't know if the state as a whole is how you identify yourself or what. I'm not trying to turn this into a personal attack and it is starting to take that shape, so I appoligize for that. When I can, I share my opinion freely, I expect others to do so as well and I will never tell someone to watch what they say or to hold back. Most opinionated people will make themselves look like fools(Which I have done myself here for example) if you give them time. As for the laws, I do vote and I do take part is as much as I can to change what I don't like and to protect what I do. Now to just set the record straight I love Utah so far for what it has to offer, don't really have a beef with people or the cultures and I'm at a duty station where I can slow down from the usual Army grind. I choose to come here and as I said before I have a build plan underway that even "the man" can't be upset about.

If you modify it to the point that it might be outside the local laws or restrictions, then you made a choice to do so and are subject to the consequences of that choice. If you do not want to deal with those restrictions then you have the option of registering it as an OHV and deal with another set of restrictions. As much as I may dislike these laws, I know they are for the safety of others and myself.

Can't you have someone renew the registration in your home state?

"Military personnel from another state who are stationed in Utah may retain their vehicle's out-of-state registration. However, if you buy a vehicle while in Utah and plan to use it here, you will pay the Utah sales and use tax even if you decide to register the vehicle in your home state. "

It's not "legal according to where registered" it's "illegal according to where driven"

example: Some states dont have as strict of window tint restrictions on their front two side windows. If you have a car with 20% tint and registered legal in that state you are still breaking Utah law if driving here with those windows and you can get cited for it.

While you might feel the state is very restrictive on some things, its still better than what used to be. And thanks in no small part to many that are on this board... 1st Amendment, I think you need to re-read the rules for the forum. Just saying.

I still need to drop in and meet you. But also the LEO presence where you work will make the state's issues MUCH more easy to deal with!

And while the FullSize ATV thing might work for some people, I'd make sure it would be legal to drive on post... Never can tell what those guys might decided.

You have your 1st amendment rights as I have mine. I find it funny that you are using the constitution to defend yourself from a purely cautionary statement by me, intended only to help you out. Say anything you want. I really don't care.
