A friend brought over a 4 cyl YJ with an auto. I haven't seen one of these before. He needs some Ideas for power.

But the 6 cyl with manual instead

I believe all of the 4 cyl's come with 4.10 gears, that will help with the power if he is still on stock sized tires. All of the regular ideas will help, but bottom line is it is still a 4.

honestly, prolly the best thing he could do is swap in a manual...a 2.5L with an auto has got to be pretty painful... :p

there isn't really any power upgrades that are worth it on the 2.5L (short of swapping it out)...I have heard headers and exhaust help a little but for what they cost you can swap a new motor in...

Agreed I got a Borla Header that helped a bit but I have a Manual. 5th gear is NEVER used anymore unless I am going downhill with the wind pushing me on my 35's :D

How difficult is it to swap in something like the I6?

I am pretty sure the motor mounts are different so it would be about the same amount of work as swapping in a V6 V8 or any other motor (as far as mounting etc)...wiring could be easier on a chevy or ford because they are such popular swap candidates its been done to death.

You would spend more swapping, than if you just sold the 4 banger and bought a different Jeep with the 4.0. Unless you got taken on the 4 cylinder purchase.

Hey JeeperG what geas are you running on your four banger with the 35s

Still the stock 4.10's don't wanna dump any money into such a sh!tty axle. would rather wait and just buy a 60.

I have the D35 but am invetsting in a D60, and am still deciding between 4.88 or 5.13s to push 35s with the four banger

go as low as you absolutely can...when I had my YJ on 35s I had D44 front and 9" rear, I ran 5.89s...it made it very tolerable...still wanted more enigne but I could now use 5th gear again on the freeway.

I have to hit 3rd gear on fairly flat road at around 3,500 rpms in a manual can't imagine a auto. Thats with my setup.
