I realized I never posted the final iteration of the small corner desk project to fill stupid useless space.

It's not organized and pretty yet. But all the woodwork and mounting is complete.

Turned out better than I was expecting and leaves just enough room for the garage door. Which we'll be filling that empty wall with calendar/meal planning boards.81F35938-F476-46D0-BB84-DB290CDA04DD.jpeg

Yesterday I had the day off, so I figured it was a good time to spend working on the bathroom remodel that has been going for a few months now. between my dad passing, my family buying a new house in Bear Lake, working full time and having kids, this was a project that was going to be tough to get to....it was going to require a full day.

When I framed the exterior wall for insulation it put the toilet only 11.5" from the wall. I couldn't leave it since my shoulder hits the wall if I sit...plus it gives no place to store a brush or plunger.

Started by borrowing a saw to cut the concrete. Began that fun task adding water as I cut. Then I ran to Home Depot to rent a 20lb demo hammer.

Getting the concrete wasn't 5oo bad but the dust is EVERYWHERE. After I got it out I rerouted the line over. It is now 15.5" from the wall, so within code.

Then I took the demo hammer to the old shower drain. No real good way to get the floor retiled and ensure the weepholes aren't clogged...so out it will come. Don't mind the framing of the bench around the vent. Those are just nailers on the right side....some scrap I had. I still need to add a few more nailers and the 2x6 blocking along the shower wall for the pan..but otherwise feaming is done and I can begin drywall/concrete board

I am now down a bathroom until I finish so this also puts the pressure on.

Another effing shelf today. Mainly for kids’ crap that the wife just puts in the middle of the garage floor. Oh and that giant inflatable water slide monstrosity in the corner. I’ll add a center support when I add the next shelf above it.

Wait until you have 3 kids. There’s not room enough in this world for all of their stuff. Especially now that we ordered (2) single seat electric go-karts from the vendor at DCRC. It’s fun but also I have too many things with wheels and tires at my house…

These last few posts just remind of some advice I got from an old farmer once.

"If it's got tires or tits, it's going to give you problems"

I think he was talking about cows but those would be spelled differently? Just what he said. Take offense if you will. I've found truth in that statement over the years but I guess I'm a glutton for punishment and will continue to seek

My parents bought a house in Fish Haven, ID this spring. I have been up there a fair bit working to get it ready for all the summer rentals that were already booked.

Started Memorial Weekend installing a septic riser. The access hole was 36" below grade and the main septic pumping company up there had no record of it ever being pumped since they started in 2005. The house was built in 2003, so it is possible it was never done. A few weekends prior we hand dug to the tank, then 2 weeks before Memorial we rented an excavator to find the access hatch. Septic was pumped...but they don't do risers, and the company they referred was booked out until late June.

Here I go.
Installed a Tuf-Tite system (I believe that's what it's called. Bought all parts on Amazon) Secured to tank with Butyl tape and tap cons.

I only ended up going with 2) 12" & 1) 6" riser. The tank has a sloped grade and while it was 42" down on the high side, it was only about 28" down on the low side.

Then i back filled the whole thing by hand. What a PIA. The equipment rental place in Garden City wouldn't let me pick up their mini ex with my Ecoboost and charged $75 delivery and another $75 pick up fee...on top of the rental fee of 24 hours. Even though I would only need it for 1-2 hours. Montepilier would've been an option, but by the time I was so tired, the drive there and back would've made it not really worth it.

This last weekend I started drywalling in the bathroom I've been dealing with for a few months (termite damage) My wife wanted to hide a note for any future homeowner/remodeler that goes into the wall. She also had me put a pic of the family and some cash (not sure why, but whatever)

I pinned it so you can see it from either side of the wall.

The house I grew up in had an old metal milk can buried in the lawn. It was the redneck version of a riser, they just cut the bottom out of the can and shoved it over the old hatch hole.
