There's a lot of talk about the socialization of our country, and the uprising about killing the current health care bill. My question is what can we do to make our system better?
I guess it comes down to whether you believe that health care is a right. Right now Salt Lake County is trying to pass off an additional tax on property owners to cover the cost of Police services. The county sheriff's office is no more, and there is a Unified Police Department instead. The Fire Department has already done this, and receives it's funding from the county, from the portion of property taxes that used to fund the counties Fire Department. But for the Police Department, the county has proposed that there be an additional property tax to cover cost. Right, wrong or indifferent, the funding will come from taxes. Should we privatize the Police and Fire Departments? You can always make arguments that the police or fire departments aren't the most efficient ways to spend our money, but should people be able to opt out of paying for them? And if so, should people be treated differently, or denied coverage by them?
