The F150 isn't working out for me, I'm thinking about listing it and going looking for the bricknose F250 I wanted in the first place. Once I find one, I'll need to start looking for a 3rd truck for gallivanting because the F250 will be just too big for what I do. I'd like to start watching prices and getting a feel for the market, but I don't know what I want.
Ideally, it will be a DD, family hauler, and backroad camping rig/mild wheeler. Important factors for me are reliability, 4wd with low range, room for four plus day trip gear, power to tow a small trailer and maintain speed in the passes, and it really needs to be under $5000 because I'd be paying cash. I REALLY want a 60 series Landcruiser, but I'm worried about the 3F making enough grunt to move my circus around the countryside at better than snails pace. I'd consider an 80 but I hear they're underpowered too, and one in my budget would probably be trashed. A 100 series LC or 4th/5th gen 4Runner would be ideal but outside the budget. A 2nd gen 4Runner is underpowered and probably a touch too small. A JKU would be great but I couldn't handle the price tag - maybe a TJ or LJ, but I'd be worried about room in the back seat for boys + cargo. A DC Taco costs way too much for what it is, we already have a 3rd gen 4Runner and I don't want another, Grand Cherokees don't do it for me (ditto the Landrover) and I have the same concerns about an XJ as I do about the 2nd gen 4Runner. Suburban or Tahoe or Expedition, too big. Bronco or K5, same story. Explorer, been there done that. The boys would hate the back seat of an FJ Cruiser. I think an Xterra is probably too small, and I don't want to drive a Nissan anyway, and now I think I've ruled out almost everything.
Did I just talk myself into a Trooper?
