15x8 steel cause they are cheap, plentiful and they really clamp the bead on my 12.50's

has anyone run a 8inch wide wheel with a tire wider than 12.50?

i ran 15x7 steel wheels with the diy beadlock kit that i welded on making them 15x8 with 13.50's. i loved it and was able to run 0 psi with no worries about burping air or losing an inner bead

I think you should add some more details to your poll.. I mean I run a 7 inch wheel but then what else are you going to run on a subaru with stock tires HEHE :)

I've run 7, 8, 9, 10. and 12" wide wheels in the past. 8" is by far my favorite. I didn't have failures with any of the other widths, but I have my reasons for not liking them.

Here are the reasons I run 8" wide wheels:
- I typically drive with 25 PSI MAX on any vehicle with big tires. The 8" width keeps the tread pattern wearing evenly
- you're a lot less likely to blow a bead on a narrower rim
- my wheeling style relies on using my sidewalls for grip/climbing. When I ran 10" wheels, my sidewalls didn't grip as well. They were shaped more like squares than balloons. This is especially true on KM2s. They have the lugs on the side, but with a 10" wheel, the lugs aren't the part that are sticking out the most. With an 8" wheel, it pulls the bead in closer, and leaves those lugs out for more grip. In fact, that's the reason I keep getting KM2s, those sidewalls grip like crazy.
- the valve stems are closer inboard so they're less likely to get ripped off by a rock.
- I like the look, but that's not important
- I can air down a lot lower without worrying about losing a bead. Pinches aren't a concern. If pinches are a problem, youre tires are too low-profile.
And here's why I choose steelies:
- they're cheap
- they're cheap
- they hold a bead better than aluminum
- steel wheels can be repaired when dented
- weird offsets are easier to get with steel wheels.

Disadvantages:
- steel wheels are heavier
- steel wheels don't balance as well

That being said, I always run steelies.

so you had bead locks that make a big difference, what size tire did you run?

so steve have you had a bead slip on a aluminium wheel before?

Nope, I never had confidence to lower the PSI lower than 10 PSI on an aluminum rim. But when they were dismounted, the bead came off right when it lost pressure. That doesn't happen with my steel wheels.

I've always run an 8x15 steel wheel. Always had a 12.5" wide tire. Steels are cheap. I have had a couple dents in them but I can always get the dent out and I've never lost a bead on 35's or 37's. I obviously can't make my mind up on a rig...I've had 19. But I have decided on the wheel. They've all been 15x8. Until I go to 40's or 42's on 1 tons it'll stay that way. I've had no issues.

i could but i was more interested in a good source for people wanting to know what wheel to buy, just a good list of pros and cons of different wheels sizes, but so far no one has said stuff other than about 8 inch wheels.

I also kinda wanted to hear from some people that actually had problems with certain wheels instead of just people saying they heard stuff or were afraid the bead would come off, you know real world experiences
