My wife and I and our 4 kids lived in Moab for about 9 months in 2004-5 while I built the Zions Bank there. We only had 2 choices of places to rent...we ended up in a new townhouse in more or less the center of town. We loved living there. The elementary school was great - fairly small class sizes - but when we moved back to South Jordan our kids were about 1/2 a year behind where the kids here were. Moab is pretty dead in winter, which is nice if you like the quiet, small-town feel. Groceries and gas are definitely more expensive there, and there's not much there for entertainment/shopping if you need that. If I could make a good living there we would move back there in a heartbeat.

Does not have a great School system (many of the kids here can't make change without a calculator)
Is a beautiful place year-round, close to skiing and fishing and all those things
Ranges from -15*in the winter to 105* in the summer
Is a Mountain Valley location, with mountain views in every direction.
Is a safe, quiet, nice place to live (most of the time)

I like Provo. Snakes are 50 min as well as Little moab. American Fork canyon Jeep trails are 30 minutes away. Moab is 3 hours. San Rafiel is 2 hours. Price hour and a half I think.
As far as I-15 access there are plenty. Shopping and food is decent now that we are getting an Iggies!!!
Plenty of recreation opportunities, Lakes, rivers and reservoirs everywhere, Bike paths and trails. Provo canyon minutes away. Ski resorts in all directions- Sundance being 15 minutes from town.
You'll pay more for living, especially for rent due to the large student population. But it's worth it!
Two major malls and about 10 movie theaters. costco and wallmart are here close.

The only reason I'm still in Orem (right next to Provo) is it's a great place to raise kids. Now I'm settled I'll prolly stay, but I can sure think of a LOT of other places I'd rather live.

My former boss moved here from Atlanta, and was then transferred to DC four months later. He missed Utah so much that he left the company, and moved to New Harmony. He now owns some Allstate franchise in St George. He and my current boss have really good things to say about NH, especially when it comes to cost of acreage.,

how old are your kids? that would be a determining factor. The smaller you go the more you lose in activities and school class choices. Plus can be very clickish in a small town. Cedar City would be a choice of mine lived there for a few years enjoyed it quite well and if I could land a job there I would go in a heart beat. Location is great for all activities.
Utah valley is good but getting crowded but lots of choices for kids.
