I've had both cingular and verizon in the last year and never had a problem with either service in the areas you listed

I have cingular and get full service up at bear lake, but im pretty sure cingular and tmobile are pretty close since they can roam off each others satellites.

I actually sell cell phones at the riverdale sam's club, and sell CINGULAR, TMOBILE, And SPRINT, if you wanted to come in i could help ya out. PM me if your interested (plus with me you wont be pressured into anything like at the malls)

My Verizon phone works great in Price, Moab, and surrounding smaller towns. It does not work very good out by Magna though.

You sell phones and yet you think they work off satellites? :ugh:

My advise would be to go to the Cingular and Verizon direct stores (stores directly owned and operated by Cingular or Verizon). Listen to what they have to say and decide for yourself. The closest Verizon direct store to Heber is the Sugarhouse store, on 13th East and 21st south. I don't know where the closest Direct Cingular store is.

I would tell you that you will get better service and much better customer service from Verizon, but I work for Verizon so I'm not impartial.

I've been quite happy with my Spring service for the past 2 years. I roam in area like Moab or Price, but roaming is free. I can usually pick up service pretty well out on the trails.

I really like my Verizon service and am amazed at the places it gets reception. My buddy has Cingular and it's similar. On the way to phoenix (through Kanab) there were a couple spots I lost digital and he had it and vice versa. I will say the customer service w/ verizon is 1000000X's better than Sprint was.

That being said, I may switch to Cingular if for no other reason than I hate the phone choices for Verizon. Seems like all they have is flip phones or huge ass PDA phones. I want a slim non flip phone--something like the Pearl would be ideal. My contract isn't up until August so I'll look more into it around then.

The pearl is not small... It's a Blackberry, are you looking for a Blackberry? Verizon launched the Blackberry 8830 on Monday, which is similar size to the pearl, but with one letter per button to make typing way easier. You could get the SLVR if you want a slim bar phone.

tagaustatoppen, have you seen the Verizon "Test Drive" commercials? You can try Verizon for 30 days. If you decide you don't like it you can port your number over to Cingular or whatever carrier you want, and return your Verizon phone. You'll get your money back for your phone, and Verizon will pay your bill for that month. No risk trial.

I use Verizon, it's OK but I get low signal in unusual parts of the valley, such as parts of Murray and Holladay. I can still send and receive calls most of the time. Nothing beats the coverage I used to have with AT&T though, that service would work up the canyons long after friend's phones went out of their service areas.

It's 1/2 the size (at least) of the blackberry/pda phones that verizon has. I havne't seen the new one you're speaking of, but the pearl is smaller and thinner than the chocolate for sure.

I'm not knocking the service, I just don't like the phones. I used to work with a verizon store in the building so it's not like I haven't had much face time with the phones.

edit: ok I phonescooped that 8830. it's .3 inches taller, .6 inches wider, and essentially the same thickness as the pearl. So it's about 20% larger as a whole ;)

Have you ever held a Pearl? To say it's not small is crazy, it is about the same size as my SLVR was.

This is the only thing keeping me from switching to Verizon. The phone selection for Verizon is pretty crappy. Well, and the fact that I have 7000+ rollover minutes

The only thing that I would say that is not small about the Pearl is that it's just a bit wider than a normal flip phone. That being said, I want one too. Friend has one and it's definately sweet.

Verizon works great in S Utah for the most part and I have family in Price and they all use Verizon. I haven't been to Moab so I can't tell you how it is there.

Just wanted to throw in my 0.02

I would go off of others personal experiance, if you go to a store they are going to tell you whatever the hell you want to hear. PS verizon's plans are more per month than cingular as well. But i would suggest you do whatever you feel most comfortable with.
