I guess lots of people use it as an escape--for me I think thats the wrong word. I guess it's more like it takes my mind off things--but keep in mind I only get really drunk a couple times per year. When I do get drunk I'm not trying to mask the sadness that is my life. It's just an activity that you do with friends sometimes. If you drink to mask the sadness in your life, then you are mis-using alcohol in my oppinion. I think people that get drunk by themselves (regularly)have a problem too.

There are lots of people who get caught up in it and you always here about them. You don't hear so much about the rest of society that drink responsibly. Both my parents drank while I grew up (still do, although my dad drinks non-alcoholic beer because of his health problems), and I never saw them get angry with each other or do anything stupid because of it. Just about all of my parents' friends drink too, and again, I never once saw people get drunk and out of hand or do bad things. So I grew up seeing people use alcohol, but I never witnessed abuse. It's easy to pick the bad apples out and try and inductively apply those experiences to the whole, but I think that poorly reflects the majority of people that do consume alcohol.

Never could I find the 10% beer, so i deported myself back to Id. We have a micro brewery here that makes a trippelbock, that is like 11%, don't want to have a litre and drive home............

Enjoy a good porter or stout or red wine (can we say sa-rah?) from time to time, and even a Scotch on the rocks.

Stepkids's dad does really bad things when he is hammered,(actually only takes a swallow, and a monster comes alive, really freaky) and that became hard enuff to xplain to them, why we can, and that he can't, that we all but don't anymore.

You make a strong point there Cody. Unfortunately the ones who do abuse alcohol make a bad name for everyone. It is just like the land use issues that so many people spend so much time fighting for.

Like I said in my original post. I see people at their worst. Those people have tainted my views of alcohol because of the potential problems. I understand those problems can occur without drinking, but all too often I think it exacerbates the problem. I wonder why people who know they are violent when they drink continue to do so.

The persons in my family who drink, drink very responsibly. Sometimes they are annoying as all get out, but they are responsible.

I used to drink but don't anymore. I drank daily and when it got to the point that I needed to have a beer when I got up was the breaking point for me. I told myself i'd never drink again and haven't since (3 years now). While I do miss the social aspect of drinking sometimes, it just isn't worth it to me. I've also definately seen the bad side of drinking such as violence and death. Just not worth it in my mind. I love the taste of beer so I just drink non-alcoholic beer now. :D I wish there was a bigger variety of non-alcoholic beers but o'doul's works for me.

Don't drink, never have, too afraid of becoming an alcoholic...which runs in my family (excluding my dad)
I have the same fear, but not for the same reason. When i look at the amount of soda i drink on a daily basis, if i took a drink there's no way i wouldn't turn into an alcoholic!!! lol :)

You know soda does to you kidneys what alcohol does to the liver. Our bodies can't process carbinated water.

Not to mention all the sugar in sodas doing a number on your pancreas. I'd take a beer over a soda any day :D

I've never had a drop never will, while my reason now is for the most part religious it was in the past when I had left a few of my fundmantal intrinsic values by the wayside that this reason applie: My family has a Genetic Predisposition for Addiction which in turn fosters and recapitulates mental illness into a dominant life altering problem. As well as my Being underage.

While I found the comparisson of Beer To Bacon humerous there is one fundmental dissension. Bacon does not impare and eradicate ones ability to function rationaly. While it may indeed kill you the consumption of massive amounts of bacon is less likely to occur to the point where your life is lost due to it in the short term. While eating bacon there is no impaired judgment or inability to ration intake that is not habitually contemporary. Whereas with alchohol as has been stated it is concurrent and exponential with increasing quantity's.

There is little respect to be given by me for those who chose to abuse alchohol. (I.E. Using to much, Driving while intoxicated even if only slightly buzzed, becomes physicly, sexually, verbaly abusive while intoxicated, Or Underage{even if in strict moderation}). As with any substance in life from taking allergy medication to alchohol, if you are not educated to it's effects then you should have business putting it in your body. Especially if it is against the laws of the governing nation within which you reside. ;)

Since most of my reason is based on religion, I won't say much. These pictures speak for themselves:

I dont drink, I did do that whole drink thing when i was about 22-23, but then i quit after i woke up at home in the tub very sick. i dont like the taste, and i dont really like the feeling of being drunk. at about 26, I joined a Church that doesnt like drinking, and I had no problems with that.

my family drinks, my wife has been known to kick one back. she is much more fun when a little tipsy.

I dont mind drinkers, and being in the millitary, I am usualy the Designated Driver when we are on deployment somewhere or overseas.

So keep an extra pepsi in that cooler for me :D

I get some pretty obscene gas when I eat bacon, to the point where others can get violent... :ugh:

I drink beer, wine and milk. Some times I drink milk with my beer and other times I drink wine and beer. If I'm feeling kinda crazy, I just drink wine with no beer and no milk, never the less,,, I like beer, it makes me a jolly good fellow.... :D
