I know we should all be greatful for work, but that schedule is insane. I don't see that shift being sustainable, are there other operators doing the same thing? It has to be a high turnover gig???

I work 9-5, with the occasionally 8pm-2am garbage to get work caught up (tonight ) I usually only do it once or twice a month though... It is nice to have a few hours of uninterrupted work!

Checking in. I work midnight to 0830 with a ten on four off rotation. I like the four day weekends and the shift differential.

everyone dose it...sense im new I pretty much stay on that schedule for a wile..the other guys work that same shift but need to cover other guys so sometimes work doubles or triples and most the time no days off weeks...
there was a high turnover but they started paying good and started a 12.5% shift differential increase, so its not near as bad...its hard....really hard...but the pay is good but I have no life now ether...so not sure how well its going to work...
everyone is dead tired and have constant medical problems...had one guy fall asleep walking wile delivering a fan. lol

its a job and a good paying job also, so i just got to suck it up I guess...

Shift work disorder. It's super common for anyone working irregular hours. The weird schedule means poor sleep quality, and bad sleep can lead to all kinds of medical problems Chronic depression is the big one. I had to go see a sleep therapist to get my crap together, and I'm doing better in that regard, but I still sleep poorly and struggle with fatigue, and that's making it hard to lose weight, and the extra weight leads to it's own problems, it's hard for sure.

How's your sleeping environment? Google "sleep hygeine", and make sure you're doing everything you can to help your body recognize when it's sleep time and when it's awake time. I wear sunglasses on my drive home even if it's raining, I have blackout curtains in the bedroom and keep the AC on, I avoid any sort of TV or computer screen for an hour or two before bedtime, it all helps. Melatonin and Benedryl are my friends. :)

Checking in!

I work 12.5 hour shifts, 5:30am-6pm, or 5:30pm-6am. Basically rotating back and forth between blocks of nights and blocks of days. Something like: 4 nights, then 3 days, then 3 nights, then 4 days....there are 2 or 3 days off in between each block, then 7 days off after each full rotation--which is what makes it all worthwhile. :D

In college I use to work 4 pm to 4 am 4 days the first week and 3 days the second week. I hated it but I was able to go to school with little debt.

I install fire sprinklers for a living. My old company had me working 100 hour weeks for nearly 2 years solid! I didn't like living out of a motel and surviving on gas station grub so I quit. Now I only work about 60-85 hours a week

My schedule is nothing like yours, but my daily hours are all over the place. I've been working a lot lately from about 5:15a to after midnight. And then in my "free time" I fabricate haha.

self employed, work my own hours. which means I don't work when I should, and work when I should be sleeping. in bed after midnight, up by 6. I run a snow plow in the winter, which throws everything off on snow days. back to back storms mean 24+ hours in a truck, followed by an hour or so of sleep, and then back to the truck. It takes a day or two of sleeping to recover from that.

I work 12's. 6 to 6. Rotate days to nights every 4 months. Been doing it for 13 years. I love the 3 and 4 day weekends. Nights suck but so do days due to management and engineering staff being there to harrass you. It's all a tradeoff.

I rotate all three shifts 8 hour days 2 weeks of each shift then switch, and it's not as bad as other schedules I've had but I drive 45 min each way and prep for work about 45 more min before my shift so I'd save a lot of personal time if I could work 3 13.3 hour shifts like we used too

I used to work 4 12's Four on four off. Graves sucked ass! I never got enough sleep and was hell to live with for 13 years! Now I work normal days and weekends off. I'm much happier. In 7 years I'm gonna quit working for good!

In the past few months I've been tossed between the 7am-4pm to 5pm-1am to 11pm-7am shifts. I never used to but I now know I hate anything other than a normal day shift. Last night was my last night on the 11-7 shift, mainly because I am down to 30 days left assigned here to Hill so I have a lot to do to get ready to leave.

The next few years can actually almost guarantee a normal day shift almost all the time so I think I'll be happy again. Rotating shifts suck, night shifts suck...hell even day shifts suck but at least you get to have a life.
