I have an 07classic. I have done nothing yet, but I have spent 100+ hours reading http://dieselplace.com
I will get EFI live when it comes out with 5 position adjustability, and transmission control. I will buy that for sure. I like to tinker and that looks like allot of fun. Only other thing is cat delete. It already breathes good and the exhaust is nearly 4" from the factory.

06 dmax here. I'm running Preadator on the 65hp tune with a Kenndey Boost stick. A-pillar gauges and MBRP cat-back exhaust.

I love my truck.

I used an 03 2500 to tow my ZJ down to moab and I have to say I was very impressed with how well the motor pulled. Compared to my old cummins, the dmax had more power but it also got 50% worse mileage too.

Overall, I would still take my old Dodge--it just felt more solid towing. But the dmax motor is no joke.

I just bought one, ats turbo and down pipe, chipped using a hypertuner fipk and a dynaflow muffler, it's got more power then I'll ever need, I think I'm going to paint it silver and orange, Black is such a bad color, but it was a hard deal to pass up.

Probably felt like it had more power because your 48RE auto tranny sucked away most of the power... They (Dodge) de-tune the cummins when it's behind an auto transmission too.

that and I had a crack exhaust manifold that would only allow me to get about 12 lbs of boost. When I first got the truck I could get 19-20 lbs of boost.

Like I said, I'd still buy a dodge and will when money comes around, but I was very impressed with how the Dmax pulled. I just didn't like the ride (too cushy/bouncy--not nearly as solid as my dodge)

Interesting comment about the GM trucks. That's exactly what I don't like about them. I'd assume they're totally fine if there's something in the bed.

I didn't like all the configuration choices either. Well you can get any tranny you want as long as it's an auto. Oh, you don't want OnStar? Oh, it's free. But I don't want it.... They seem to build the trucks with the expensive options whether you want to maintain them or not.

Just get some heavier shocks and it'll ride like that ford/dodge you're used to.

--> the reason that chevies ride different is they use a multi-overload rear spring, basically when it's empty you're riding on about a 1/2 ton spring, so it rides nice empty, at ~500lbs you hit the primary overload (which is another spring) and it rides like a tank, at about 1200 lbs in the bed it rides nice again.

The one Cody used doesn't have Onstar ;)

Yeah, I can barely keep my StuperDuty on the road with that solid axle. I do steer WAY clear of the Dodge guys as well.

Have you LOOKED at a StuperDuty's spring pack? Oh, it looks EXACTLY the same as my neighbors '96 Chev 2500HD.

PLEASE excuse my comment regarding Cody's comment. I'm not worthy of owning a truck since I don't prefer the same truck you do.

Powersmoke? pff that's not a truck.

Yes. However, we're talking about a *DURAMAX* as in starts in 2001 and I was talking about 1 tons, the 3/4 tons only have one overload and the 1/2 s don't have any. And your definition of EXACTLY must be different then mine.

Thats right, so buy a Heep, so you can join the heep club and come wheeling with us. --> for your reference I've attached what a real tow rig looks like and a proper motor ;)

Glad you like it. Sorry, I misstated that his truck was a '96. It's an '06. He's a Chev salesman at Murdock here in Bountiful. The spring pack is very similarly built to my StuperDuty (exactly the same engineering concept).

for ride quality GM did copy some of the finer points of Ford rear suspension, but left enough strength in it to keep the receiver off the ground ;) GM's really do ride nice, but you get less feedback, if that's something you're used to or like it's a little strange. I towed with a 1 ton flatbed dodge couple weeks ago for work and I couldn't believe how rough it was.

What year? There's a big difference in ride quality compared to my '98 & our new-to-us '03. But perhaps that's just due to the fact that this one doesn't wander all over the road.
