There's probably a reason for that. ;)

Weight isn't the whole issue. Heart disease runs in my family and I've got crazy high cholesterol unless I control it carefully.

Very good reason to be healthy. You made me feel bad for my comment. -_-

When I was 8 my dad took me one night to see Halley's comet. I was really excited to see it, and spent the whole night up on a mountain in the coldest, cloudiest, foggiest weather I've ever seen. We never saw a single star, let alone the comet. It sucked and I was pissed that I missed it. I swore the next time it came around I would see it. So, I have to live another 53 years and find a warm place with no clouds. I'll be 84. It's stupid, but I really want to see that damn thing.

I like the silver and gold the best, and I also enjoy expensive vodka.

Damn neighbor being a bad influence. I think it was my idea to brew together though:D We need to get back to brewing again so I don't have to bootleg anymore.

Well I don't know about you guys, but I can drink Sprite with the best of them! I tend to lean towards free refills. Can't go wrong there. :D

For me quiting mtn dew is more difficult. I can not quit all at once, I get headaches. I have gone without a drink for a few months and never had a problem.

yeah i actually quit all beverages besides milk, water and 100% juices... partially to see if i could do it and because i had an interesting little health scare last year (at age 25)

come 2010 i will probably become a social mtn dew and dr pepper drinker :D

but no where near the amount i used to consume

the headaches don't last very long or at least they didn't for me. actually i have way less headaches than i did when i drank caffeinated beverages, i know because i can't take any medicine besides tylenol (related to health scare) and i rarely take it

I drank several energy drinks a day for about a year and stopped cold.. it has been great, I have had one of two in about 6 months

I've cut way back on my drinking...partly because I hate feeling like **** in the morning, partly because I've been broke for a bit, and partly because I don't like being that drunk. I don't mind a minor buzz, but getting hammered and acting like an idiot (everything is a great idea to me when I'm drunk) isn't novel anymore.

I'll say this though, I don't necessarily like to be drunk, but I LOVE beer. It's a hard line to walk. Also, just about all of my favorite and most entertaining stories begin with the line "so we were drinking this one night....".

As for the monthly tab, I used to run up $500+ per month in bar tabs easy each month. I've had $500 weekends...which I'm not proud to admit.

Congratulations Olly, you won't regret it. I was a weekend drunk before joining The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1979. I stopped drinking, smoking, lying, coffee and tea, and running around with wild women all within one year and have not been happier. I admit it was harder to stop the caffeine because of the headaches. I still miss the smell of a Rusty Nail, Drambuie and Scotch.
Good luck, preparation, on your fight too.

It should be something you enjoy in moderation. I could never justify going to the bar very often (maybe 2 to 3 times a year). I could always think of better things to do with the money.

i dont really drink in town maybe a beer or two on the weekends (sucks with kids cause they dont care if you feel like ass they want to play) but if i am out of town without my son watch out now cause i am tying one on for the entire time.=)

Ditto on both! I typically have my son with me all the time, so that limits me to a couple a day when I'm out wheelin' or something. But like this weekend, I went to some mud bogs with friends and I took two cases of Coors Light and had to bust out the MGD's I bought in July and still have - Friday night through Sunday morning. That's what, $45 in two days? I rarely ever drink at home or alone. And if I'm with those that don't drink I'm ok not to, but if I'm around drinkers, then I'll follow suit. If they are moderate, me too, but if they are drunks, ME TOO! And I don't do bar's anymore. But I might pay $5 for a beer at a stadium event...

But like James said, it's something I do because I enjoy it. Not because I have to or NEED to. If I added up everything through the year I doubt it would even go over the $200 mark. That also includes wine...
