Why Google is The Devil

I mention Google only because it's come up in recent threads, I'm not referring to just Google. Also your ISP, your cable company, your mobile phone provider, Facebook and other social media, and who knows who else?

Certain people who shall remain nameless (but whose name starts with Sp and ends with Ence :D) have argued that it's silly to be concerned with privacy rights in the information age. I disagree. Here's what Facebook (and anybody that pays them) knows about you: http://yro.slashdot.org/story/13/03...ws-if-youre-gay-use-drugs-or-are-a-republican. Here's what your phone company (and any government that illegally accesses those records) knows about you: http://www.businessinsider.com/what-you-can-learn-from-phone-metadata-2013-7. It's pretty easy from that to see the wealth of information Google has on you.

The Obama administration (and to be fair, the Bush II administration too) have already demonstrated that they're actively interested in stripping whatever Constitutional rights we have left, and it's pretty easy to see what's coming next. Do you want them to have access to all that information when push comes to shove?

This is why privacy matters. Our Bill of Rights is there in large part to set limits on the governments' powers and protect us from our own leaders. The more those leaders wish to circumvent those protections, the more I'm ready to head for the hills. And the more private companies like Google and Facebook collect info that could be used against us, the less I trust them as well.

But our founding fathers couldn't forsee us having the internet so the constitution and bill of rights doesn't apply anymore...sorry just a play off the stupid argument people try to make about "assault weapons"

If you aren't concerned about what our government is doing you need to be. If you think it's ok for them to mine information just because they want it on hand, you are an idiot. Most people are blissfully ignorant of all this anyway and that doesn't help any at all.

Turn off your internet or install TOR on all your computers.
Use only pay as you go cell phones. Purchase a new sim card, phone number, and minutes regularly.
Shut down all your internet accounts including your RME account because your data is being gathered even on this website.
Turn off your power to your house. Enclose your house in a Faraday cage but don't make it obvious or the spy satellites will get pointed at your house.
Don't use credit cards. Accept your paycheck in cash only. Don't allow your employer to use a third party payroll company.
Don't allow vendors to keep your information in any way.
Pay off your house and never utilize credit ever again.

Essentially, if you want the utmost in privacy, you cannot exist in this modern world. It CAN be done but sounds rather inconvenient.

I just don't care.
I don't care because there is nothing I can do about it RIGHT NOW.
I will vote appropriately when the time comes. I will voice my opinion when privacy bills come up in government. I will do my duty as a citizen to strive for privacy but it doesn't keep me up at night.

I assure you I know more about the digital world in regards to privacy than I probably want to. I am surrounded by people in my peer group that are cyber-security experts with books on the subject sitting on the shelf at Barnes & Noble.

I've been to Blackhat and Defcon. I've seen how easily our data can be had by a 12 year old kid sitting on the side of the road with a laptop but like I said...there is nothing I can do about it unless I go dark and shut it all down but I'm not willing to do that because I just got a picture from my friend of her standing naked on Route 66 which means I should head over to her place and take some more pictures of her and upload them to the internet...she's into that kind of thing.

So, give up is what you're saying. Thanks, but I'd rather bitch and moan and do my best to prevent as much erosion of my rights as possible. That includes posting things like this so others can see and understand what there is to be concerned about.

I'll take snarky comments from the peanut gallery in stride.

^ This.

I hate to pile on, but you sound defeated Spencuri. Personally, I believe this to be one of the most significant debates we will have the opportunity to participate in in our lifetime. I refuse to merely wait for someone else who shares my values to run, I choose to be that person with the values I desire in a candidate. I'm not old enough to run for President yet, but I'm drawing up a life plan to get me there ASAP. It's too damn important to do anything less.

I'll take bitching and moaning over silence. :D
But yes, point taken.

Or get involved with U4 or any other group to keep roads open. Before we start worrying about privacy and keeping roads open we need to change a few million peoples attitudes about life itself and freedom. Just realized this is beyond my ability to fully express in a few words. So will close with "Take care of you and yours and be honest and truthful in all you do".

Don't make this about U4 the group that does all of nothing and still continues to drag more people into wasting their "membership $$" on them :)... Join a group that actually does something is what I am saying.. don't join groups that just complain that they can't do anything...

Freedom is a myth, we have never actually had it only a modicum of indirect control by our government, it is just getting much less indirect as our elected officials grab more and more control :)

Wouldn't it be cool for someone not so mainstream to become our pres. The problem as I see it is unless you are already a millionaire a few time over, you can't get national press, and therefor no one knows who you are. How do you over come that? And how do you get people to stop checking the "all republican" or "all democrat" boxes?

At this point, making enough money to be able to even consider a run is the primary goal I'm working on. I'm also looking into a part time public position (like a City Council or something similar) to allow me to dip my toes into the waters of public policy while keeping my day job. Obviously there are a lot of gaps to fill in between there and the Presidency. I can't pretend to know each little step I'll encounter on my way, or what opportunities will even present themselves, but I'm motivated and forward looking enough that I think I can keep ahead of opportunity.

I do believe that not only can I do this, but I can do it without selling my soul or losing sight of why I am willing to dedicate my life to something that honestly doesn't sound particularly fun. I have no desire to tell people what to do at all, I merely want to keep the concept of liberty safe from relegation to the history books of the future. Somebody needs to do it, why not me?

So say a particular person was to back you throughout the whole ordeal, any chances of that person not having to pay taxes anymore, once you're in? ;)

Cronyism is something I would like to end rather than perpetuate. How about a big fat public thank you and the knowledge that you helped this country return to the beautiful clarity of the spirit of our founding documents? =)

Edit: Plus I would rather just cut our spending, and then all of our taxes than only yours.
