why is your rig/ride the best at what it dose

Well, I have tried in different way to ask this so lets try it this way.

I have the jeep Rubicon it has the new 4 speed auto and 4:10's gears that some has said are more like 4:09's and I have the 285/75/r16s on the stock rims some others have said that these Rubicon all have some weird power problem and this is my first I4.0 so I have nothing to compare it to but the different vehicles Ive owned. Personally I am very disappointed in the power to fuel mileage and that was one of the reasons I got it was to have kinda compact economic exploration vehicle abut 10mpg off road is far from ecconomic.
My dad had a fj40 when I was a kid and he raved about it but they are so expensive to find now and I had little dogde d50s that were awsome but ifs and other little things to much to mention. to make a long on going question short every vehicle I have had has had good with the bad not just trail rigs passanger cars and tow vehicles. I want to know why you like your rig, and what you would change. if possable

I have never kept track of milage off road. It isn't all that important to me. All I know is that I can pretty much drive all weekend in Moab on one 19-20 gal tank. Probably the longest trail I have run is Hole in the Rock and it was not a problem. Ten MPG seems pretty good to me for off road travel. It is kind of strange (and sort of refreshing) to hear a Rubicon owner that is not 110% happy with thier purchase. I think you just need to get out and enjoy it as much as you can. It wil become a part of your family in no time.

Maby it is just the gas prices. I took it up hunting around fishlake and had to fill up twice at $1.85pg thats 40 bucks a pop. I dont know maby It was getting worse than 10mpg but I was just wishing I had some thing that got better mpg for exploration. So keep it all comming all you toyota fans and suki lover chime in anytime convince us your ride is the way to go or even you boys with superchargers or engin swaps. what makes your the betst at what it dose?

the first time I did psm-gs-gbr in moab it took us 12 hours. I used less than a third of my 10 gallon tank. routinely got 26mpg around town.

the only time I use a lot of gas is in the dunes. I go through a tank and a half a day running at about 7-8 thousand RPMs all day long!!

the zuk fits places really easy. It was cheaper than dirt to build. Parts cost jack.

and the best part is, I can beat the living sheit out of it and not feel bad in the morning.

I can tow it behind a stock XJ without problems. it only weighs about 2000lbs dripping wet.

drawbacks:
a little underpowered in some situations

limit of 33" tires for stock axles

short wheelbase makes steep ascents really hair raising.

it is by far the best bang for the buck!!

zukis have been really tempting but just too scary for me I would have to be around them more before I got one It was hard enough getting a jeep still tempting though.

i also get in the mid 20's for MPG. off road i hardly use gas. most the time your at a crawl and or idling, not powering around at high rpm's all day. so good off road mileage.

i like the axles, for how much abuse they can take.

i like the fact that 90% of previous zuk owners say they loved thiers, but needed something bigger after awhile. i often hear that a stock zuk is most everyone's favorite or best memories.

downside is size, but if size doesn't matter than who cares. those with a growing family that likes to wheel together, might be kinda hard.

like spence said, abit underpowered at times.

cheap is the key word here. there is a guy competing in CalRocks? who is proud to boast $2,800 bucks in his zuk.

i think i'm gonna make it a Toyota though

:D :D

how new is your rubicon? Wait for it to break in. If you are getting only 10 mpg something is wrong or you need to use less skinny pedal. I have had the 4.0 in 4 jeeps and never get worse than 15 mpg in any of them.

Mileage, like all things, is relative. :D

My '97 Rover D90 gets 12 MPG street and about 10 MPG off-road. My Ruby gets 15 MPG street and about 10 MPG off-road. The big practical difference is in the size of the fuel tanks with the D90 at only 15 gallons capacity I carry a jerry can of fuel whereas the Ruby's 19 gallons makes an all day run a piece of cake.

hmm, I don't know my gas mileage. My gauge says empty and my OD is about 40% off. Back in the day I ran PSM/GS/GBR on 1/3 of a 22 gallon tank for 12 hours.

I ran 156 miles of freeway on 6.01 gallons of gas w/ 33's and stock gearing. Not bad for a "gas hog" v8. My pseudo-tow-rig ZJ gets 14-16 MPG towing to moab w/ my pseodo-buggy ZJ behind it.

I would guess my gas mileage offroad now is maybe .5 - 1.5 mpg.

anyone with pickups, toys...... who has that disel powered raider or what ever that would be awsome
some of my funnest memories were in a little dodge d50.. or a mazda b4000 that 4.0 was awsome next was isuzu trooper the power was better than the jeep and the ride; offroad it was better than average but deffinately not a rubie and I complaned about the milage in it too but that was when I drove with all skinny pedal.

Oh yeah, those are big words considering everything on a Cruiser was copied from either Jeep or Chevrolet. Ever hear of the stove bolt six? :D
