16'' 2.5"s! Wow! Talk about 10lbs of stuff in a 5lb sack. I'm excited to see the packaging.

I'm pretty certain that packaging will be a lot easier then coil overs. I may have to raise my upper shock mounts higher than originally planned, but I'm pretty sure I can make 16's work.

You won’t have to run much pressure at all in those. I think you’ll like it!

That is what I'm hoping! I'm not sure how much this Willys is going to weigh when it's all said and done, but I think these SAW's are a better option when it comes to air shocks and the bigger ones in the front will only help. I'm actually looking forward to playing with the oil level, nitrogen pressure and possibly even messing with the valve stacks in order to get them tuned just right. If necessary, I might run some kind of rear anti-sway bar just to keep it that much more stable.

I only played with valving on one set of air shocks and decided to send them back to the factory after that. Opening the shock was the biggest pain, other than that it was just the valve stack and precise oil measuring.

Bruh.... these things are YUGE! Yeah, it's going to be interesting fitting them. 14's would be easier... X-D:oops::eek:

The 2.5's look pretty ratty, going to try clean up the machined aluminum bodies.

I'll bet if you wetsanded them down to 1500 and buffed them they would look slick.

I was mostly just surprised about 16"s.
I have 14" fox coilovers and I think they'll have to go through the tub to fit mine.
At least you won't run out of down travel.

The 2.5's actually have a machined surface, so that makes cleaning them up a bit more challenging. I ordered some aluminum cleaner that they use on aircraft that should help. It's called BONDERITE C-IC 33 AERO (FORMERLY ALUMIPREP 33).

I was planning on 14's but these seemed like a good deal, so I picked them up. I need to quit finding "good deals"... :oops:X-D

I'm not sure I'll run them, honestly. I don't mind cutting the tub (and probably the hood) and building high shock mounts, but it might be best to sell these and get 14's.

Any updates on this build? I'm starting my build with a reproduction tub also and I was curious if you were able to get this thing titled without the vin tag on the tub??

No real updates unfortunately, this is a long-term project and I'm not pushing it. I figure I'll worry about the title eventually.

Hahah I will I'm just getting parts gathered up right now but should have enough of a pile to start something within the next couple weeks. Mine will probably be a slow couple year build at least so dont get your hopes up haha

So one of my hangups has been steering and packing the rest of the front end components. I bought a Saginaw steering box for a Chevy Astro van with a forward facing pitman arm, so I can move the axle as far forward as possible. It seems like it's already tight once I add the track bar, shocks, etc. I'm debating just jumping right in to full hydro. I do want to be able to drive on the street and up to 50-60 MPH, but don't want it to be sketchy.

I found a pretty affordable option for full hydro with a double-ended ram from Hyd. Steering Unlimited for just a hair over $1000. - https://www.hydraulicsteeringunlimited.com/product-p/dehsk.htm

Obviously I'll have to weld on a ram mount, but that's no big deal. Any thoughts?

Oh.... pic of it's current condition.

I understand your packaging issues. ;) I'm sure someone will disagree with me, but I haven't liked any of the full-hydro setups I've driven, for on-road use. Even well set up systems with double ended rams are only pretty decent...never "good" for highway.

Love, love, love that rig and hope to wheel with you in it one of these days. Have to agree with Carl on this one about full hydro on the road. How much do you really think you'll be on the road, and probably more important, how many times over 40 mph?

Have you thought about some kind of simplified cantilever? You could keep the box behind the axle and have it steer sideways (just have to custom make your pitman) to a cantliver that would do the crossover.

Carl probably still has the files for his cantilever steering setup
