Looks great! I like that you followed the windshield frame with the cage. And the stretch looks great, again. Very nice solution to making more space w/out making it LOOK stretched. I dig that.

lookin good, nice shiny wheels too! Does the cage go through the firewall, or just bolt to the dash?

It will go through. Right now it's bolted to the dash, but there are plates both inside and out, so I can tie it all through to the under-hood stuff that is still waiting to be created. That's where the coilovers will mount, too.

Awesome! You better get a lot done this week!!!!!!
Cage looks great!!
What is the ground clearance of your engine at ride height?!
I am trying to decide where to mount mine in relation to the tub & frame (keep center of gravity low, but push the engine up as high as possible for clearance)!

I don't know ground clearance since I don't know exact ride height yet, but the top of the motor is within 1/2" of the hood. The original flathead is a very compact engine, so just putting a larger engine in at all requires you to stuff it in. (!!!!!)

That is sooooo similar to what I have been dreaming of for a daily driver/weekend toy someday, nice!

I remember those dreams... Or at least hearing you talk about them years ago. Didn't you even have a flatty tub at one time to start with?

NICE! Even stretched it still looks tiny! :D What will the WB be?

Right now it's sitting at 94", but the front axle needs to come back a bit. Probably 92" or a tad more. :greg: (I know, it's short....but that's still 12" longer than stock)

Got a little more done this weekend. I cut the bottom 1 1/2" or so off the bottom/rear of the tub, and bent up a minimalist bumper:

It's the new Rockwell bottom-loader. You give up a little clearance, but they're air-locked, 7.20:1 final ratio, with 2.5" gun-drilled shafts just like the Navy wanted them. Yeah, the Navy. Wut?

hheheh

Ya, but while I was boxing the frame, the tub was sitting outside and some tweakers stole the it. The scrappers were probably pissed when they realized there was more weight in bondo than sheet metal, but I bet I was still more pissed. All that's left of it now is the grill, hood, tailgate, VIN plate, and title. The buggy build thread starts soon...

The Willys is lookin great! I love the minimalist design, flattys are so sexy, it's a shame when people make them unrecognizable. I dig it!

I stripped all the brackets and spring perches off the axle (a big job in itself, they have a TON of little things welded on there), and made the upper control arm brackets. I'm debating whether or not to add a truss to the axle tying into those brackets....it would strengthen the whole assembly, but since I'm trying to keep it all lightweight, it may be counterproductive--the light weight will make bending the housing less likely, plus adding a truss adds some weight by itself. Decisions, decisions............
