Back home now, it was very anti-climatic... nothing even worth taking pictures of. The early details of the derailment and damage were exaggerated, like they usually are. There weren't 2 units on the ground, the 2 front trucks of the lead locomotive derailed, but they didn't touch the ground, because the traction motor was resting on the rail. The locomotive was re-railed pretty easily. We had to replace several bolts in 2 switches, but that was it. No changing rail, ties, etc. This was the easiest derailment cleanup ever!
The tree was over 24" thick and fell from a cliff several hundred feet high. We got really luck on this one because the tree fell just outside a tunnel and the train hit the tree, derailed and went thru the tunnel. It's just luck that the units stayed on the track somewhat and the train didn't pile up inside the tunnel.
I'm off to bed now... will be off the rest of the day, buy still get paid my normal wages in addition to the several hours of overtime. :greg:
