Ok guys motor blew a hole in the side of the block today. So I need to ask all you xj owners what positives and what negatives I need to look at when researching xjs?

Also would like the same questions asked for 4runners.

How did you do that, aren't those motors pretty hard to blow up? Are you going to part it out now? You can come drive the black Jeep if you would like, at some point I need to sell it.

Not sure how it happened. No warning besides 5 seconds of knocking them BAM a ton of smoke, loss of pressure, loud bang and it was dead. Not sure what I can do now. Its worth quite a bit still and I can part it out and get a bunch from the head, powersteering, trans/tcase, tires, 3rd members, overhead dvd, and wire harness with guage cluster(for samurai 16v motor swap). I think the best bet would be to part it out but if I can find someone with a clean samurai to trade straight across I might go for that. I have quite alot of friends and family offering me either xj's or 4runners already but I would like to research the positives and negatives behind owning each first.

One positive is that I have owned it over 14 years and would drive it around the world without hesitation, hint hint.

what's your budget? If you're looking for low budget (my guess), you can get an XJ pretty cheap. If you go the 4runner route, I'd recommend a 1996 or newer.

In my mind, there's no doubt the 4runner is the better vehicle, but it also costs 2-3x more. That being said, it's hard to beat an XJ for the price, they're great little rigs.

Just go anything after 92 you get the HO 4.0 and non vac front 30. 96 is the best year to get so i have heard. Stay away from an 01 with this heat we are having you will hate the heat soak you get everytime you drive it.

I've started two threads in the general discussion forum recently. One is "advice on xj purchase" the other is "advice on 4runner purchase". A lot of good info in those two threads. I ended up with a Runner.

UNSTUCK

But stuck more often.
Dare I say you will get no money for your head, in the condition it is now in? I'm sure the piston beat on it pretty hard.
