The winch I originally bought to go on my sxs ended up being a wide drum, and would not fit the way Polaris wanted it to fit. I was sad, but didn't want to spend the time to refabricate the mounts. So I opted for a HF 3500lb winch. Got it all finished up and did an extra good install, doing the small things to make it 100%, and really took my time to do it right. Went to wind it up for the first time, and the cable jumped the drum and wedged itself behind.

I had to take the sxs front plastics off again to get to the winch and pull it out. Looks like the wings on the side of the drum may have even broken.

Needless to say, I'm quit bothered, and do not want another HF replacement. I looked around and a hand full of other non-name brands and determined that none were going to be reliable enough.

So I went for a Warn.. but then saw this in the reviews:

Same thing happening to the Warn, and others reviews with the same issue.

Which just makes me more sad. What happened to the ability to pay more for better quality?

UNSTUCK

But stuck more often.
Is it a winch issue or a cable issue? Too much spring back in the cable? I bet you’d have better luck with synthetic rope.

I was winding it under load.. just the sxs up a slight inclined driveway. Cable was tight. It did wind up on one side, which I am sure played a major part.. but IMO, it shouldn't even be possible for a cable to go behind the spool. It should be covered better.

This Champion is kind of getting my vote for now.
