#5 for me is also knowing that my vote actually doesn’t matter one bit here in Utah. I only voted because I promised a neighbor I would.

The Moab closures really did a number on me mentally. I have legit turned off all care and believe that my efforts matter.

Ok…going forward…Trump is going to be the next president, fine. I accept the election results despite NOT voting for him. I want forward progress. Building starts with foundation and part of foundation is character. I am having an impossible time with How demonstrably BAD of a human being trump has been to his fellow Americans and Women specifically. No details necessary. No finger pointing necessary. I’ve not been lied to by the media. I’ve done my peer reviewed research. It’s unquestionable. I just keep getting hand waved away when I bring it up.

I’m NOT trying to start a debate. I’m not trolling. I’m not stirring shit.

How do I get past this?

Its like getting the greatest subway sandwich ever promised but I watched the subway kid wipe his ass with the turkey slice with a smile on his face.

I’m not accepting “what about….” I know all politicians are dirtbags. All politicians didn’t get elected to the presidency? Trump did.

As part of your fellow American citizenry that didn’t vote for trump, I’m begging you for help on this. I’m looking to start figuring this out.

Do I just work to ignore how bad of a person he is? Is that where I start?
Did you guys vote for the policy and not the person? Is it that simple?

Let’s be real here.
I know you said you aren't accepting "what about" s but, spend a little while watching or listening to Jimmy Dore. You will probably come to realize they (politicians) are all terrible to everyone, Trump just says the quiet part out loud. Once you can actually internalize this for your chosen team and not just the other team, it makes it much easier to get past the cult of personality that is American politics. I mean the only reason this would bother you so bad is if you thought the other candidate was better as a person and I don't think that is the case.

The 1st and 2nd amendments are my top issues, much like abortion is for so many women. Trump sucks at the first and is not good on the 2nd, Kamala is way worse at both. The Biden administration closed my favorite public land in the state and was on track to close much much more of it. The border is a mess, so much so that the effects are obvious in Orem Utah when I'm the only english speaker in Winco on a Sunday. Those few things made it easier to vote for Trump along with RFK and Tulsi joining his team.

So I'd say, I picked my top issues and voted for the clown that I thought would harm me the least in those areas.

Sorry @spencurai

I'm not sure if we've ever had true "journalism", ESPECIALLY in our lifetime but maybe ever?

I've always thought the definition had "unbiased" within it. While that is actually impossible, extreme low bias is possible. Reporting actual facts and letting the consumer decide what to think. @mbryson = @idealistskeptic Whatever news source you cite in the modern American media has significant bias in my mind.

In my early years in college, Operation Desert Shield turned into Operation Desert Storm. At that time I thought CNN credible. I don't give them any more credibility than the National Enquirer or Faux, er Fox News

Maybe I'm Orwellian?

I was strongly encouraged to read 1984 in grade school. A little over my head but I reread it again in high school. Probably due for a re-read? Interesting and scary thoughts are presented there. More accurate and plausible than I ever thought possible

It's getting time for a reset

I think this election was a hope of that. Not all civil wars happen with guns and such. This totally shows most Americans (the popular vote didn't go to the Dems) don't like the Furry, Trans, Inflation, lazy, Gov handout direction it's been going. There is great responsibility along with this election and I pray it will not get squandered. If the results are there and swift (remember the system is designed to make it slow so we can survive things like 4 year of Biden) I think a more conservative trend will continue. Morality matters to me and I proudly colored in my Trump box. Our local elections had some very important things this year as did most others. Staying home and not voting is most problematic on local elections.

I'm in the camp of voting EVERYONE out of office for the next 4-6 elections. People get ONE term. That's it. Let's get some lobbyist reform/elimination and some term limits. There aren't many "public servants" out there that are not after the almighty dollar. There might be a few, but not many at all

(totally half baked idea but that's where I'm at---politician = crooked bastard in my mind, at least until proven wrong-------maybe that's why Trump doesn't phase me much)

That reform would be awesome but not likely in our lifetime. So, if every politician is immediately looked at as a crooked bastard why would good person be a public servant? I think you find them locally, even up to state government. I also think they exist when first elected to congress, but they don't last long once there.

We have to work with what we have while making small gains to clean it up. Draining the swamp is a huge reason Trump is popular. He has many of the same "enemies" we think we have. I've gotten sideways with a government agency or two before and they are huge bullies so him standing up to them is quite refreshing.

It's ok to be frustrated and tired of the bs in the system, but bowing out isn't the way to give our children a chance. The Dems/libs/progressives don't tap out, they keep chipping away at things for decades. That's why we never win when "compromising". Land use is an excellent example of this. We compromise and lose trails every time.

If you aren’t familiar with these guys, look them up; unlike most pundits, they have a lot of credibility, having achieved real world success, and IMO are extremely insightful.

In this episode they speak pretty non-emotionally about the election and how to either come to terms with it or even to embrace the potential upside of the next four years.
