This country isn't ever coming back together. Big war would make it seem so while it lasted. Unless of course it was a civil war.

People are legitimately too far apart to ever come together though.

The two party system, by design will keep it that way. I think for many Americans they vote against somebody not for somebody just so they don’t feel like they wasted a vote.

The last 3 sets of presidential candidates cemented this for me. You would be hard pressed to do worse and people still didn't vote for a third party, not even 5% of people.

This is the part I disagree with

People aren't as far apart as they think. The biggest issue is that no one is willing to listen or debate/argue anymore. I mean, look at the political witch hunt of almost every politician that reaches across the aisle. They get crucified and villianized by their own party...all because a radical few have made it so.

The vast majority of people are centrists, but even they are slowly closing their minds to different views, but it's not even different views. They shut down when they are confronted with a different way to look at things. It is the radical fringes (both sides) that have become the leaders and the middle are stuck dealing with it....and slowing learning to shut down their openmindeness.

I have tried to have conversations with both my in-laws (staunch Trump fans) and my many of my friends (staunch anti-Trump) and neither will listen to anything I say that may give them some reason to doubt what they have been fed by the fringes because, time and time again, those that do get ostricisized.

When did compromise become such an evil thing in this country? As long as we let the radicals on both side make compromise a bad thing, we will be divided, but ultimately, the majority of us are much closer then most think. We just act blind and deaf to anyone with differing opinions

I'm hopeful the opposite will happen. Hopefully Trump will get to do his thing because the extreme left short of trying to impeach again don't have to worry about him anymore, so maybe just maybe it won't be a 4 year circus of them trying to remove him and some good can come of it. Hopefully it won't cost me $200 for 5 bags of groceries, hopefully his energy policy will make my fuel bill be less than $100 a stop. Hopefully our borders will be secure. Hopefully the national deficit will maybe go down for once in my lifetime if we can stop all these ridiculous social programs. Hopefully Elon can clean up DC a bit and make the government more efficient.

Hopefully the DNC can look at themselves after this and stop the insanity that has become the party, no more DEI bullshit, no more pronoun bullshit, no more victim culture, no more weaponizing the justice system, maybe a proper education for the youth of America. The 1st, 2nd and 4th amendments will remain intact. You do you boo but we don't need it shoved down our throats, and I think that is what America said yesterday.

Then again i'm an optimist and don't create mental health issues for myself, and it will likely just be the SSDY in 4 years.

I think this is very wishful thinking. Trump will use the next 4 years to serve his interest best. I truly believe he doesn't give a single shit about our country. He wants to be "the hero" and almighty so he fights for things only for his own vanity and ego. He has developed a cult in the Trumpers that think he is the 2nd coming....and he will do whatever he can to continue to make then think that.

I wouldn't be surprised if he spent the next 4 years trying to get the constitution changed just so he can run a 3rd time, or some how become a dictator. I also believe that most of his die-hard followers will see no problem with that.

I really want to know where this narrative started, I’ve never seen anything that would lead me to believe this is his agenda, maybe I just have my head in the sand.

And as @J-mobzz said I 100% am not a trumper, but I voted for him because not Harris.

At least Trump was actually voted for in the primary, and not installed. But I believe the path the Democratic Party is on far more resembles a dictatorship. As much as the two party system sucks, still better than the one party system like the dems trying to make the rest of the country emulate California.

The vast majority of people are centrists,

That's not what I see. But I don't watch much TV. Don't do any social media aside from a few forums. Don't have a "feed", don't click on any of the crap that pops up here and there.

All I have to go by is the people I talk to. And those people are NOT coming together. No way.

My generation was accustomed to taking care of business and just getting shit done and not giving a **** about anyone's feelings. Not even our own. Compromise was how you got shit done most of the time. And getting shit done was what mattered.

There is none of that in the younger generations.

And even my generation, most I know, are either like me, just so fed up we have completely tuned out and just don't GAF anymore. Or, feeling so burned by "compromise" over the last 20 years they are now what the other side (whichever side) calls "radical".

My youngest is 22. All she wants is to get an education, get a good job, buy a house, have kids, live her life. Rightly or wrongly, she very strongly believes that liberal policies are an existential threat to how she wants her life to play out. Kids her age that are liberal, consider her ultra radical. For? Wanting to have a normal life and not be ****ed with by liberals.

I just don't see that vast majority of centrists. I could believe the vast majority would self identify as such. But, they don't act like it. And they aren't going to start. They see each other as enemies, because really, when you bring it down to the kitchen table, they ARE enemies.

This really isn't the 'centrist' view you're claiming. These are pretty far to the left field talking points and I don't know anybody that thinks trump is the 2nd coming. That's bonkers.

I have talked to a few in my in-laws circle that feel he is "appointed by God" So there are plenty out there that believe he can do very little wrong and will find no fault in him what-so-ever. This does not only apply to Trump. Obama had similar die- hard fans (although I don't think he fed them and relished in it the same way)

When I say this though it is a little tongue-in-cheek. He is thought of VERY highly by a lot of people. I mean come on, to not see that is just being ridiculous. He is thought of by his followers much in the way the Obama was thought of by his followers (remember his BS Noble Peace Prize?) They think somehow these people are the best, it's a cult of personality and Trump plays the cult leader to a T, and a lot of his supporter (certainly not nearly all Trump voters) love him and think he can do no wrong.

Outside of his stupid "Dictator for one day" or whatever comment, I honestly believe that is something he would LOVE to be. He has not been shy about his admiration for many of the world's dictators. He may be a little vague about it, but he certainly does have a thing for them, and I do believe, his ego would love nothing more than to be one in the US.

I agree that the younger generations are very bad at this......I am Gen X and my in-laws are boomers, so I am seeing it more and more in the world. We can't expect a younger generation to get it when the older generations can't even handle it. Leading by example is the key.

I still firmly believe that most people are centrist and hate the fringes on both side. Unfortunately, they scream the loudest and end up picking the candidates for the parties...and the majority are left to pick. Until we start to ignore the fringes, we will continue. Also, putting your fingers in your ears does no good.

The rhetoric that the left is out to destroy this country, that it is by design is stupid and just acting like the rest. Neither side wants to destroy the country. There are differing views as to what is important, but I truly can't believe either side wants to destroy the country.

Also, I have no social media. The internet, outside of various news sites (Yahoo, which pulls from other various sites, KSL) RME, occassionally YouTube for fab, home improvement, and finance videos, I don't look at much on the internet I don't have a "feed" or see all the other crap from either side all that often.

I'm also not sure if the Pike comment about Black Piling was directed at me. I have no idea what that means, and like DAA, I'm not about to google it.

It was haha. Black-pilling is like choosing to see the worst of things. It wasn't an ill intended comment, more just a fun jab

I’ll read the article as I enjoy a whiskey while soaking in my hot tub, but the title reminds me of what was said in the 2020 election about Trump.
I kind of feel like that’s what happened in 2020 to Trump though. There was a lot of things that people didn’t like about him causing them to vote against him.

A lot of those things people still don’t like about him. But the idea of being able to afford groceries and gas makes it seem a little bit more tolerable.

We’re not talking about the far left or the far right we’re talking about a lot of people closer to the middle that don’t have a candidate essentially are voting against the person They don’t want an office the most.

I think one of the most interesting things I saw leading up to the election was the amount of 18-25 year olds that were not buying into all the something for free BS. If the Democrat party over the last 10 years had not gone so transgender women in sports crazy , I don’t think you would have seen that. Will they stay voting Republican….who knows.

I found this segment of the population coming out in record numbers in Pennsylvania for this years election as an interesting factor
