    Pritchett Canyon - Please Read!

Sorry, no pics, but I walked up and looked at it on Sunday evening. The ledges are gone, looks like a gravel road. I was hoping that they could have left it at least somewhat challenging, but from the Road Dept's view, I can see why they did it that way.

    Pritchett Canyon - Please Read!

It's done. The obstacle is gone. R.I.P.

    Pritchett Canyon - Please Read!

The BLM is aware of both of these bypasses, and is currently "tolerating" them. The RockerKnocker bypass is possibly (probably, actually) within the WSA boundary, and I would recommend NOT using it. We are working with the BLM on resolving this issue. The RockPile bypass is definately not...

    Pritchett Canyon - Please Read!

It will most likely happen sometime in June, although we haven't seen an official schedule yet. We've met a couple of times with the County Road Department, and they aren't even sure exactly what they will do untill they get there with their equipment. Appartently, a lot depends on the hardness...

    Pritchett Canyon - Please Read!

Believe me, if I thought that a sign and a cable would solve all the problems, I would fight like mad to make it happen. But the fact is, the County and the BLM want the obstacle smoothed over, and after analysing all the facts, I reluctantly agree that it is the best option. Signs are only...

    Pritchett Canyon - Please Read!

I wish that all users, 4x4s, ATVs, dirt bikes, mountain bikes, and hikers, would not attempt trails that are over their ability. But it will never happen, we all know that, and the damage will continue. And by creating artificial ways to keep these people out, are we really any better than the...

    Pritchett Canyon - Please Read!

It's always been a 4+ or higher since I have run it, but it was probably "over-rated" at one time. I first ran the trail in 1992 or 93 in a Samurai with 32" tires and a LSD in back, and did all the obstacles without assistance. I also drove up the obstacle in question with the same rig, again...

    Pritchett Canyon - Please Read!

I am sympathetic to the guardrail idea, but it would only solve one of the three problems we have. Yes, it would keep 4x4s out of the WSA. But it would not prevent any of the rollovers that are becoming more and more common (and what happens when rigs roll onto the guardrail / fence, becoming...

    Pritchett Canyon - Please Read!

Kurt, feel free to use my post in the newsletter if you would like. EZ, I agree that bypasses on Rocker Knocker and Rockpile are not the ideal solution. However, they do exist (although they are technically "illegal"; in fact, the Rocker Knocker bypass is probably within the WSA), and keeping...

    Pritchett Canyon - Please Read!

In order to save our trails, sometimes we have to do things that we really don’t want to do. That is the case with what is going to be done on Pritchett Canyon. The first ledge that drops off into the canyon, (right at the start of the trail) is going to be “fixed”. Over the last 2-3 years...

    List Illegal Bypasses!

We (RR4W) have put trailhead signs on several of the most popular EJS routes. The signs include the trail rating, but do not list "minimum requirements". (We are working on a proposal, however, to post a "minimum requirements" type of sign on Pritchett.) As for posting signs at more...

    List Illegal Bypasses!

Greenjeep is right. At the Rockpile, the bypass is not in WSA, so the BLM is pretty muck okay with it. (Since all the rocks on the Rockpile dissapeared a few years ago, that obstacle is impossible for 95% of rigs unless you winch, so the bypass is pretty much a necessity.) The Rocker Knocker...

Utah Trail Patrol - Join Now!

Todd - Moab Friends-For-Wheelin' is VERY interested in joining the Patrol. We have more than 10 people in the club who would do it (maybe Capt. Pickey and jmaxj would also be interested???) if we could set up a training session in Moab. Email me or give me a call sometime (259-6119) with some...

    Am I a member of USA-ALL?

Mike - I don't have a copy of your last newsletter, so I will ask you here... Our new club would like to join USA-All. So, how much is a club membership? Once we have a club membership, then it is $20 per club member that wants to join, correct? Please let me know, and we'll send you...

    BLM building fences along Escalator

That's a good question, and I don't know the answer. I'll try to remember to ask BLM and let everyone know. Derek, we are going to meet at the BLM office (82 E. Dogwood) at 8:15 Wednesday morning. As long as we have enough material, I'm sure we will be able to finish everything in a few...

    BLM building fences along Escalator

Our new club, Moab Friends-For-Wheelin' (not "Moab Friendly 4-Wheeling", or whatever they called us in the article), were the only 4-wheelers who showed up to help build the fencing. (Some of the local Hummer tour guys helped haul in the logs.) We are going back on Wednesday to finish up at...

Upper and Lower Proving Grounds are closed!

If the developer did in fact lease the land as he said he has, I don't think there is anything we can do to keep it open. Maybe I just haven't been listening close enough, but I do find it surprising that it is CloudRock that is closing the area. I always thought it was just SITLA... Kurt...

Upper and Lower Proving Grounds are closed!

Just an FYI for anyone planning on running Upper or Lower Proving Grounds, or camping in the adjacent area. My friend just talked to the developer of CloudRock, the resort development that has been in the works for several years now on the mesa top (Johnson's Up-On-Top) above the trails. He...

    Hey Moab residents

No snow at all in the valley. We got just a dusting last Sunday night, so there could be some at the higher elevations. I would guess that most trails are in great shape.

    Changes to trails @ EJS

Rick - Okay, I can respect that, but don't you think things may be a bit different now than they were in 1978? You seem to have a lot of good ideas, and you just might find that being involved with the club would be of mutual benefit. However, that being said, I admit that I have also backed...
