Suzuki DRZ400 Rebuild Restore Modify thread.

Looks like it's running like you need it to. Wish mine was doing the same! I'm jealous of your electric start, for sure. These DRZ's really are great, do everything bikes.

DRZ will not idle after storage

Fuel screw has been checked. This is the Keihin FCR carb, fyi. I'm pretty new to diagnosing stators. But I do need to do a good visual inspection still. Would I be checking resistance through the coils of wire on each of the poles?

DRZ will not idle after storage

So, FYI. Adjusting the idle didn't fix it at all. Afterwards, I dunked the carb in 50% PineSol, with the carb about 2/3 disassembled for 3 days. I then cleaned it with water and a scrub brush, then blew it out with air thoroughly, then sprayed it out thoroughly with carb cleaner. Hopefully...

DRZ will not idle after storage

I may have found the problem today. I finally got time to pull the carb off and take a closer look. All 5 jets (first time I've messed with an FCR!) were perfectly clean. Everything looked perfect inside and I could easily blow air through any appropriate passages. So I got to looking at...

DRZ will not idle after storage

I'm old school two-stroke as far as carburetor knowledge. Is there more to the "idle circuit" than the pilot jet and air screw?

DRZ will not idle after storage

I had not heard of using Pine-Sol before. I'm currently suiting up for a ride with it running as-is, to hopefully slosh some fuel around and see if it miraculously clears up. If not I'll check the float height and try your soak method. Should be fun trail riding it with no idle. Well, it...

DRZ will not idle after storage

I should add, it's the kick start model with the better Keihin carb.

DRZ will not idle after storage

I finally pulled the DRZ out of storage today, where it has been sitting for two and a half years. Prior to putting it in storage, I drained all of the fuel from the tank and the carburetor. After pouring in some fresh fuel and giving it a quick pull start, it ran great but will not idle. It...

    Towing with F150 or Tundra

I had a 2012 extra cab 5.0 4x4 and I saw 22 on the freeway with stock tires if you kept it at 75 or under. With P rated Firestone AT's on it one size over stock, that went to about 20.5. They handled any load I pulled just fine at 40 PSI (44 is the max). I've now switched to a 2012 5.0 crew...

    Towing with F150 or Tundra

I'm driving a crew 2012 F150 with the 5.0 and it tows a full size rig on a flatbed with ease. With not-too-agressive tires I see 20 on the freeway and 16 in town. Towing at 70-75 I see about 13-14MPG. If you push it to 80, which it does just fine in 5th, you're looking at about 10MPG. A...

Yeah, I've made that mistake. Cherokee #17 (not kidding) is currently sitting in my garage needing a tranny and a host of other things. Jared

    The upcoming moto ride/quick report.

Don't you know it! I've never felt so old and broken in my life. Just trying to survive until my insurance plan year begins again in January when I can get my knee fixed. Pretty much the only exercise it can tolerate for the past couple years is some brief swimming. Even a walk around the...

    The upcoming moto ride/quick report.

The bike hasn't been licensed for two years, and being street legal, still needs to have the headlight reworked to pass inspection. Not gonna happen before Saturday, unfortunately. The ATV's have been a bit gentler to my bad knee than the DRZ was, so they've been my go to for outdoor fun...

    The upcoming moto ride/quick report.

White Sands at Little Sahara? Dang, I might have to join you on the quads. I have not been out in FOREVER!! I'm getting a crew cab like yours (but no Ecoboost) with free gas tomorrow. If I can swing it, want to carpool? Jared

Any Cautions for Towing 4 Wheels on the Ground?

Plan on long stopping distances. A jeep makes a heavy trailer for having no trailer brakes. Make sure your Jeep has some caster in the alignment, or the front wheels of the towed vehicle will not follow you well, particularly around sharp corners. If you do have to back up, lock the steering...

    2003 Yamaha Blaster power issues

It caught me off guard too. I've never had a machine with a washer under the jet and didn't expect it to have one. If I hadn't noticed it on the parts fiche I'm sure I'd be doing a leak down test and swapping ignition components this weekend. With just that washer it will now break the tires...

    2003 Yamaha Blaster power issues

Well, it's fixed. It was missing a $2.09 washer from the main jet. Apparently the previous owner rejetted the bike when he installed the pipe, and neglected to reinstall this washer. Leaving it out allows fuel to be sucked past the main jet, causing the bike to run outrageously rich. I never...

    2003 Yamaha Blaster power issues

I was under the impression the needle has very little to do with jetting at wide open throttle, and that's where I'm having issues. So the pilot jet controls idle up to about 25% throttle, the needle/main jet combine to control about 25-75% throttle, and primarily the main jet controls roughly...
