Booo! on Garfield County - "Deal aimed at paving famous Burr Trail switchbacks"

You can call it cherry-stemming, but that's a dumb term. I would rather say that a road (yes a road, not a trail) would be a wilderness boundary. If the remaining piece isn't large enough to make into a wilderness unit, then it isn't. But what's the point of this thread now? Just to argue...

Paul, wilderness can exist on the left side of the road, and the right side of the road. Plenty of examples out there.

Driving on Roads with No Doors?

Indeed, the lip law. My IH Scout II with doors off = no good. My IH Scout II with doors off and factory fiberglass door inserts to form a 3" lip in the door opening = bueno.

Booo! on Garfield County - "Deal aimed at paving famous Burr Trail switchbacks"

That claim was made falsely earlier in the thread? And made falsely at WOTR by Mike Swenson in person (according to a poster in this thread)? Certainly thanks for relaying the county commissioners public line that they do not intend to pave. We already know this information isn't correct...

Don, thanks for posting that. So who's correctly informed? To say it's all "debunked" or "much ado about nothing" seems inaccurate.

Not today or next week, but that is their intention according to several sources. Both BRC and SUWA have that opinion.

Booo! on Garfield County - "Deal aimed at paving famous Burr Trail switchbacks"

Seems like we already have a lot of conflicting information. About this and the long term paving plans by various counties. Several sources saying the county wants to pave the length of the road (now or in the future), and one saying otherwise.

Booo! on Garfield County - "Deal aimed at paving famous Burr Trail switchbacks"

That is interesting. From the article, there are several quotes attributed to Garfield County Engineer Brian Bremner: "An upgrade would probably include some kind of surfacing. A minimum-level surfacing would be a paving." "We would still like to see it paved all the way through." While the...

City Weekly Article on Utah's RS2477 Actions

I wonder if someone at SUWA actually wrote the article. Their only sources are SUWA and FOIA requests. An interesting interpretation of Benson's rulings so far, and plenty of jabs at development and ohv users. A long but fun read of entertainment-journalism-like writing.

Public lands office goes in guns blazing, hiring cronies and sparing no taxpayer expense fighting the feds. On Jan. 11, 2011, John Harja, then-director of Utah’s Public Lands Policy Coordination Office, calmly sat down in the budget hot seat in front of the Natural Resources Appropriations...

Booo! on Garfield County - "Deal aimed at paving famous Burr Trail switchbacks"

Well that is pleasant to hear. Would USA-ALL put that on paper in a letter to Garfield county asking for the plans to pave the road to be scrapped?
