What is it in? Most steering columns have a lever(or bar) that runs down the column to where all of the wires hook up. I've read that if that binds up it will cause the problems that you are having. If the relay(?) box that it runs to is bad that could be it as well. This is not the best of pics...

Depends on if its wired through the ignition or to the Battery. I would choose the Battery and run a fuse or circuit breaker inline.

Any SII T-19 wide transmission will work. I put one in my 800. They are not as common but I picked another one up at Tear A Part a year or so ago. People have them for sale from time to time. I've heard they were more common in the later years and behind 4 cylinders or diesels. I am no SII...
