If the spots can be flaked off and kind of look like glass, that's silicon that's added to the wire as a cleaning/flux agent and is normal. Oh, and running that vertical uphill will dig in better than running downhill.

with any curing oil such as what you are using, the potential is still there. The issue is most common with rags wadded up and dumped in the trash. Two easy solutions are to lay rags flat to dry or burn them.

If you add some Japan Dryer (avail. in most paint stores, HD included) it will cure faster. Just beware spontaneous combustion of anything used to apply it.

I will hand deliver to my driveway in Draper for free and the chips are free. :) In my mind, apple is king for milder foods, then hickory, for every thing else.

have you tried replacing the bulbs? when a bulb blows it can cause a transient on the power and take out the others if they are close to burning out as well. I you replace a bulb and it's happy then you should be good to go. Are the outlets GFCI protected? if so, where is the GFCI circuit...

Yes. Flux core will also run hotter than C25 for better penetration. Straight CO2 runs hotter as well (not as hot as FC) and is cheaper. I keep some FC around because you can use it in breezy conditions when the gas for solid wire would get blown away.

Most solid wires are copper colored while flux core is usually silver. Do you have a gas bottle ? Also, the drive rollers for flux core have serrations while the ones for solid wire are a smooth groove.
