Anyone know of a HAM cram class?

Congrats! You've just taken your first step into a larger world. Good to know, thanks. I would be more than happy to assist you, Steve. You've done a lot to help me over the years, and I'd be glad to return the favor. I'd be willing to bring my radios for you to use, this way you can make...

Anyone know of a HAM cram class?

Unless things have changed, it is given via paper and pencil. There will be multiple examiners who will then check and cross-check your answers to verify your grade.

    Let's Talk Lawns

Great thread idea. I suck at lawns. I know I don't have the worst one in the neighborhood, but it sure feels like it because my immediate neighbor and the neighbor across the street are in a perpetual, unspoken war to have the nicest lawn in the county... which makes mine look all the worse...

Exactly! That's why I posted it in RME.

    2017 IFS Wrangler

The Mustang guys say the IRS (as used on select 2003-2004 Cobra models) actually weighs more than the standard solid axle setup.

And everyone here should see it (though I won't spoil it and say why). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xkEIFat2nc

Hanging Tree Trail (Final Comments Period) Sanpete County Re-map

On the page that invites us to leave comments, they have a link to a .pdf map of the current roads. (link here) On that map, the roads are labelled numerically. As I study the map, I believe we take roads 1157 and then 1158 to get to HTT. But then where do we go, exactly? In other words...

Anyone know of a HAM cram class?

No, that's not correct. The "lowly" Technician class has full privileges on everything 6m and above. Since the majority of car-to-car communication happens on 2m and 70cm FM, this is great news. Technicians also have very limited use of a few of the lower HF bands, which is handy for those...

Hanging Tree Trail (Final Comments Period) Sanpete County Re-map

I just bumped the other thread, and asked its OP (skylinerider) to send me a copy of his letter.

    Public input in Sanpete needed

Yes, I would be interested in seeing a copy of your letter. I looked at the .pdf on the legal web page, but I want to make sure I mention the correct road(s) that offer access to the Hanging Tree Trail.

Anyone know of a HAM cram class?

Speaking of online tests, I did mine at qrz.com after setting up a free account. I've looked at a couple online test sites, and I personally liked QRZ the best. Why? Many reasons. Yes, it tracks your scores (duh). It also tracks which questions you've seen and rotates in questions you...

Anyone know of a HAM cram class?

Once you make the switch to ham radio, you'll think you died and went to heaven! You're gonna love it. This is more-or-less what I ended up doing. I bought the official printed book and quickly read through it once, then went back and re-read a couple chapters again. At that point, a number...

Need newbie towing advice (trailer, trailer brakes, etc.)

As Marc suggested, a dual axle car hauler will suit you perfectly. I bought a 16' PJ, and it fits a Jeep very comfortably. I do on occasion tow larger vehicles, and sometimes that makes me wish I had a longer trailer... but since I do that so infrequently, I just deal with it when necessary...

Because Roadkill, -or- I bought an old ugly domestic car

This whole balancing an engine is a new thing for me; I never had to deal with it on my turbo 2.2L/2.5L engines. Stock, this 454 was externally balanced--it had a harmonic balancer thingy on the crank nose, behind the pulley. Most rotating kits I'm looking at for this engine state they are...

Because Roadkill, -or- I bought an old ugly domestic car

UPDATE This morning I got a call from the machine shop. My fears have been realized: the crankshaft did not survive. Needless to say, the #2 rod is also not salvageable. But maybe this is a blessing in disguise, as it could allow me to justify buying a stronger crankshaft that can withstand any...

Because Roadkill, -or- I bought an old ugly domestic car

It looks like there are a few bearing shavings poking out of there, yes. Yeah, I fear I may be looking at buying a whole new rotating assembly. Which isn't a bad thing, other than the cost.

Because Roadkill, -or- I bought an old ugly domestic car

Being my day off, yesterday I was able to finish tearing down the engine (until it was just the rotating assembly in the block) so I could take it to the machine shop. I had to drop the oil pan so I could removing the timing cover, of course. At the same time, I removed the flexplate. Getting...

    Lame Joke Thread

Kid is hitch-hiking in the hot California summer sun, hardly any cars coming by, when an old guy in a pickup truck pulls over. Kid runs to the truck, and the old guy says, "Say, son, you a Republican or a Democrat?" Kid isn't anything really, he's just a kid, but he remembers his parents being...
