Because Roadkill, -or- I bought an old ugly domestic car

Yesterday after my second trip to the DMV, I finally completed Step One: As for Step Two, I did some online research to figure out which exact carburetor is on the V6. It happens to be a Rochester DualJet model E2ME, which has an electric choke. Doing some more digging, I found a complete...

Because Roadkill, -or- I bought an old ugly domestic car

Interesting. I may need to look into this further. I won't be using fuel injectors. My plan is to run a 4bbl carb instead.

You have my full attention. Please elaborate.

Because Roadkill, -or- I bought an old ugly domestic car

There are two reasons why I hesitate to go with a big block: cost and transmission. The cost certainly isn't outrageous, but let's be honest: SBC parts will always cost less than their BBC counterparts. Since the general theme of this vehicle is low buck, it would only make sense to go as low...

Because Roadkill, -or- I bought an old ugly domestic car

Definitely the latter. If I can set it up to achieve better than the ~ 15 mpg I get out of my Jeep, I'll consider it a win. ;) Now you're talking! Many, many moons ago (when I was in early 20s) I dreamed up what I thought was my ideal fleet of vehicles I wanted to own simultaneously. Each...

Because Roadkill, -or- I bought an old ugly domestic car

For two months now, I've been searching for an older domestic RWD car so I could live out my own personal Roadkill fantasies. Unlike old RWD cars of my past--where I thought I'd have to do a concours restoration just to feel good about driving them, thus ensuring my lack of satisfaction with...

Drones...should you be scared for your privacy?

Okay, but perhaps there are... other ways... to accomplish this same task. I've never owned or even seen/handled a drone, but I have owned multiple RC cars. Each one carries a warning/disclaimer along the lines of "this device must accept any RF interference in the area." What if there were...

    Rzr or jeep

Good point. Need verses want. If I'm going to go run the Rubicon again, I could drive my Jeep all the way there and back (which I could not do with a SxS). However, I choose to trailer it there, and that requires a larger/heavier trailer than the one I could use if I were taking a smaller...

    Rzr or jeep

Full disclosure: I've never owned or even ridden in a SxS. However, I have run a variety of trails with them in my group. Based on that experience as well as hearing owners rave about them, here are the highlights of each. SxS pros: - can travel faster over mild terrain, such as fire roads -...

Anybody have any shop space? Or know of a place to work on a car?

Say, that's a great idea. I'll pass that along to him. Thanks.

Anybody have any shop space? Or know of a place to work on a car?

Reader's Digest condensed version: a co-worker just bought himself a 1980 Lincoln Continental. It has a 351 Windsor, apparently with a blown head gasket. Rather than just fix the gasket, he wants to have the engine rebuilt (machining/assembly will be farmed out to Clegg's in Orem) and add a...

It sounds like it. So much this. My remarks were not aimed to single you out, bobdog. Rather, they were a general comment aimed at anyone who might be considering their first run of this trail.

For the love of all that is holy--and for the sanity of the rest of your group--please only run this trail if your rig is built to handle it. Dual lockers, lots of lift, a winch, sturdy recovery points... these are all required. Oh, and not caring about body damage is a major plus on this trail. :D

    TJ electric fan.

My Taurus fan's shroud was sized perfectly to attach to my TJ's radiator using the same bolt holes as the OEM fan shroud. I bought four small L-brackets and attached them to the Taurus shroud in the appropriate spots, then simply used my OEM shroud bolts to attach the Taurus fan to the...

    2015 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel

Oh my gosh, really? You mean you did better with that teeny tiny screen in your former mirror compared to the almost-life-size 8.5" display you now have? ;) Seriously, thanks for another real-world update. Keep 'em coming.

    History is just cool.

Yeah, our first computer (bought in 1986 IIRC) was an Apple IIc. It had 128K RAM, which gave me bragging rights compared to friends with their Commodore 64s. No hard drive, no modem (though I kept dreaming of buying a 300 baud modem for it--how cool would that have been?). You have a...

Hanging Tree trail, July 5th 2015

Hey, I am all about making sure everybody in my group has a great time. This means lots of fun, lots of smiles, and lots of good-natured kidding around and/or jokes. However, I also take our safety very seriously... especially recoveries. At one point when we were correcting this disastrous...
