Shop / Tools Opportunity to learn/experience welding... Episode 1

The welder seems to be doing better with a new ground clamp. Now I'm sure any problems I encounter are all me! :D Another question, I welded my rear shock x-member to the frame.. looks pretty good (to me) except for some strange brown dots?! Is this some sort of contaminant? Flap disked the...

    Spacecase's 90' Toyota Pickup

I bought this V6 axle awhile back, with the intention of just rolling it under the truck and running it.. I was told it was freshly rebuilt but decided to check anyway. The lockright looks good but obviously had a pinion walk into it at some point (had a chunk taken out of the case).. and the...

    Spacecase's 90' Toyota Pickup

back on the ground, front end came down quite a bit. she's right where i wanted her and sits nice and level now. rear wheel is nice and centered again as well. :D also, frame height came down to 25". front shackle angle, i think i'll push that front hanger back about 1/2" to add a little...

    Spacecase's 90' Toyota Pickup

35/12.50's. frame height, really depends on where you measure, but around 26" at the moment. I dropped my Chevy springs at AAA Spring today, got em shortening an add-a-leaf for it, and throwing some better shackle/leaf clamps on. Decided to run the extra leaf with some shorter boomerang...

    Spacecase's 90' Toyota Pickup

First time on the ground, not to bad. Plan to swap out the rear shackles for some boomerangs to clear my bumper, then push the rear spring hanger back a little. Also have some shorter boomerangs for the front springs, to hopefully lower it some and avoid trimming that body mount. I like the...

Shop / Tools Opportunity to learn/experience welding... Episode 1

OK, the wire in it is definitely copper so it should be solid like I thought. I'll check the drive roller tonight to make sure it's correct. I do have a gas bottle, it's running a bit low so almost due for a fill.. but it's the 75/25 mix. One of the spools I have is labeled Flux core, so I...

Shop / Tools Opportunity to learn/experience welding... Episode 1

the guy i got the welder from said it will do gas or flux core, just need to swap the polarity i guess?! i'm pretty sure its got some solid wire in it now but it doesnt specify one way or another on the spool.. i have several different spools that came with the welder so i believe we could do...

I could use some tips from an experienced welder. I just got a miller 135, trying to figure it out. I have very little experience beyond stitching body panels.

No more state safety inspection in utah

I think it's a great idea, I'm tired of worrying about whether my truck will pass safety for something completely unrelated to a safety issue.. I agree, ditch the nanny approach and maybe focus more on educating the people so they actually pay attention to their vehicle.

    Spacecase's 90' Toyota Pickup

Got the axle mocked up. I think this will be a good starting shackle angle, but am open to suggestions. All pro 3" springs and 5" shackles, ended up with a slightly forward angle.. I think after they settle it will be closer to 90* (@ full droop). I'll set the weight of the truck on it and get...
