Also depending on exactly what type of off-road you really want, nothing really wrong with a full-size pickup. For exploring and camping they give you the storage and of course legroom for daily use (I have been using an 03 Silverado extended cab as daily-driver and hunting rig last 4 years)...

I got a lot of good use out of our 2003 Montero Sport. Not a lot of hard core rock crawling (in Moab area have taken it on Poison Spider Mesa and Kane Creek) but pretty capable at/near stock. With 2" lift fits 33s. Has been a very reliable rig, with a number of small issue starting to creep...

What is difference incl. +/- of each, between GX and LX?

How are the LX470s to modify? Same as 4Runner? Any idea how real world MPG compare for the two?

Reliability is huge! And I must be honest with myself that I don't find the time to get off-road near what I would like (I very capable Jeep would be more so I think I can, not that I really would.) Does seem like a 4Runner or Tacoma needs to stay on top of my list.

My plan now is to patiently wait for the right vehicle to come up. Once my daughter returns from her mission in May would have three kids sharing one car which won't go smoothly. Son will leave late summer and daughter will need something in college so the additional rig will work out good...

With the vibration don't forget the simple possibility of out of balance tire.

I have loved BFG All terrains. Have gotten upwards of 80,000 miles out of them on my Montero Sport, less on the trucks but still good life, perform well and reasonably priced for a heavy duty tire.

Looks like the Montero will get to stay on the road a little longer....thus decision on replacement pushed back. Original plan was to look for new vehicle this spring/summer so can try to keep all these ideas in my brain while waiting for a good deal to pop-up.

Similar MPG etc to my Chevy 1500. will have to give them a look.
