    With two hours in Moab....

Lots of fun suggestions. I have done Hurrah Pass, Chicken Corners and Gemini Bridges on previous short trips, all fun little runs. I was thinking Fins or Hells Revenge as well. I have ran part of Fins & Things a few years ago before being forced off by a dust storm, so finishing it would be...

    With two hours in Moab....

Next Thursday I have to make the drive to Moab for a quick bit of business (relating to a conference we have planed there in June.) I hope to have an hour or two to hit a trail while there (in the Montero). If you only had time for one quick trail, what would you run? (and anyone going...

Creative yes. Other than that, not too sure.

    South Dakota Deer Trip

Great information, something I'll have to look into! BTW, glad to see someone who has not forgotten the art of stalking instead of simply firing off long-range shots! Kodos in that regard!

Best 4x4 / daily driver! Opinions wanted

Unanswered questions make this tough. Of course the budget, how much highway driving (and just by you or is it a family rig), how tough of trails will it run, how mechanical are you vs wanting newer, reliable rig etc etc. Depending on your exact needs, be willing to think outside the box...

    South Dakota Deer Trip

May have to look into that! Is the area hard to learn to hunt or is it pretty easy to find deer on your own? Did you pay to access the private land or have connections?

    Joe's crazy buggy

I'm confuzzled by the difference in stance between 1st & 4th pics, not to mention the side tilt (empty on flat ground) in the second. Any pics of the beast in action?

larger or smaller cal. to conceal?

True. And I guess when I think 'bigger' I was not so much thinking caliber as over all "size", meaning power, velocity etc. Proper bullet selection is probably far more important than anything else for defense, both for effectiveness and safety.

Sorry, the jigs are my friends, so I don't have access to a photo of them. Honestly, I think about any large, lead headed jig would likely work.

larger or smaller cal. to conceal?

One thought it that a larger caliber is more likely to travel where you don't want it to go, should you miss. For safety of by-standers, "enough" is better than "too much". For home protection, that is one of the factors (along with accuracy) that can make a shot gun a better choice than a...

    Flaming Gorge Nov 2-3

They are fairly heavy jigs (metal, nothing fancy), I think a friend of Bruce makes them. Mostly used green ones, although did catch a couple on white, one burbot on red. Yea, it would have been good skiing water, although a little cool! A couple years ago I would have skied over the deer...

    Flaming Gorge Nov 2-3

Muleskinner has the location pegged. We were jigging in roughly 60 feet of water. As to the snagging, the reality is you have no control over that what so ever. The fish are agressive, and will at times hit the lure with their body before/instead of biting (common predetory instect...

    Flaming Gorge Nov 2-3

The next morning started off well: Also landed another 6 or so 2-5 pound lakers, one 14 and 6 burbot (largest about 28" long) between my dad and I. thanks Bruce & Marjie!

    Flaming Gorge Nov 2-3

My dad and I made a quick trip to Flaming Gorge on Monday and Tuesday. We fished with my friend Bruce Parker, and his wife Marjorie (they run the fishing guide service Conquest Expeditions out of Manila.) We fished for 2-3 hours before sunset Monday, the again after sunrise Tuesday (Linwood...

    block heater options/opinions

Even on my years living in Logan with a far less than reliable rig (drove a 78 Subaru Brat at the time), I never felt one was needed. The only time I had one not start was a -35 day with a car I'd borrowed from my dad while the Brat was in the shop. I do agree that is you where to do a...

    Anyone know this Rover?

I keep my eyes open for intersting rigs, as I would love to take a step up in ability from the Montero. Only problem is I need to either make a quick sale (has yet to happen when I tried it) or find one willing to trade. Any thoughts from Roverphiles on this one would be appreciated.
