    axel ratio

You can do any of the following: get the build numbers off of the axle and look up what it was built with. Take the covers off and count the teeth on the pinion and ring gears or read the numbers that are stamped on the ring gear. Roll the sub on the ground for one wheel rotation and...

    Any electricians around? Need help!

From the schematic it looks like you have the correct connection points but the picture is a bit blurry. The net result should be: the black wire going to one side of the switch, which should have the other of the switch side going to one side of the transformer primary. The white should go to...

    EJS Permit Appealed

(that'd be a SWEET bumper sticker :D) How about a bumper sticker that we can put after our favorite off road group sticker that says something like: SUWAcide Prevention Team Member. I'd really hate to see them win the trails battle and kill off all of these trails.

    Pinewood Derby

The axles and wheels are by far the most important. You can use "after market" axle shafts rather than the nails which work much better. Also put your weights in the back of the car, this gets the weight up higher on the track giving it a bit more potential energy.

2000 XJ front tires toeing out on bottom

I have fixed camber problems on several of my old 4x4s with angled round shims that are mounted between the steering knuckle and the bearing hub. Not sure if they make them for the XJ style of axle. I got mine from an alignment shop so you could try asking one of them.

Double towing, need tech, and/or where to go?

Be carefull doing this, a couple of summers ago I saw one of these tandem trailer rigs that lost it going down Parleys. He must have started going too fast and tried to stop or the boat on back must have started to fishtail uncontrollably. The result was that the rig came to rest with the boat...

    Rme..... Rme.... Rme?

I have talked to lots of RME members while at the snakes, American Fork canyon, Moab, and at the parts stores. But I have met the most in my garage when they come to pick up parts or have me fix their jeeps.:)

    Spring U bolt plates

I presume you are putting in a bigger axle than the stock dana 35. The ubolt plates for an xj dana 44 have wider hole spacing on the plates than the 35 plates. The xj 8.25 axle also has wider spacing on the holes. If you are using either of these two axles you can go to the PicknPull and pick up...

    Ugly Tech headscratcher...

A plugged fuel filter can act that way but it may be electrical . After checking fuel flow look at the ignition system. You should check to make sure that whoever wired the 12 Volt feed for the HEI didn't use the original wire that went to the coil in the old 71. The original wire is a...

    Welding to cast steel

Thanks guys, that was what I was worried about. I went out to the pick n pull today and found a perfect set of ubolt plates for my rear dana 44 off of a 70 Dodge pickup with a dana 44 front. I even found a rear ubolt plate from a 74 Dodge rear that will work on the drivers side of my dana 44...

    Welding to cast steel

I know you can't just weld to cast iron but I have read that cast steel can be welded just fine. Does anyone know if welding to cast steel will make it more brittle ? I am trying to make some ubolt brackets, so that I can flip my cj ubolts, and have some wagoneer cast steel ubolt plates that...

Nice looking rigs. Another local guy that makes them is Short Sand Cars http://www.shortsandcars.com/ I've been to his shop to help him with an electrical problem on one of his custom buggies. He uses bullet bike motors for most of them and snowmobile motors for the kid sized ones. My wife's...

    Eagles Nest illegal bypass

This discussion about who owns the project reminds me of a hunting trip quite a few years ago. We were out bird hunting with three good dogs and at lunch we gave our dog a big juicy piece of meat. One of the younger dogs thought that it wanted a piece of the meat too so it came over and tried to...
